I am SO stressed out
OK, so I go out this morning to put on my stock rims for the winter. I got to the fourth tire and stripped the shit out of my rim lock. Do tire shops have a way to get this thing off? The problem is, the lock is almost exactly the size of the hole in the rim (SSR GT1) and there's no space to get in around the lock. One of you guys please tell me that a tire shop can get this thing off without totally fucking up my rim.

O.G.
Don't worry, a shop can do it. But about how good they are depends on how well you know them and their business.
I had my wheel lock nut stripped and broken on one of my aftermarket rims. Thank god PAA took it out for me without a scratch to my rim.

well ya im sure with air tools they can force it off. but your prolly gonna have to replace the lug.
thats my best guess.
replacing a lug isnt all that hard or expensive either. so no biggie

I figured some of you may want to hear this one. So I take my car to a Tire Shop this morning and the guy there sees the lock, scratches his head, and says, "Umm...I can't guarantee I can get this out without causing damage." Now, the problem is that the rim lock is almost flush with the hole in the rim....NO space around the circumference of the rim lock....and the thing is STRIPPED something fierce. He tries one tool, two tools, three tools, then breaks out the chisel, causing a couple minor scrapes to the actual rim. He hammers away, yells, "FUCK!!! You need a welder man, I can't do this". He recommends a good welder so I immediately go there.
The welder says, "Well, arc welding will probably melt some of that clearcoat off the rim." I said to go right ahead. The guy arc welds a 1/2" NUT to the head of the rim lock. He took out a long turny clicky thing and ratcheted it right off. 30 bucks.
I go to another tire shop to get my winter stocks balanced and the guys there refer me to a spectacular wheel refinisher and it's going to cost about 100 bucks to do the lug hole burns and chips, and I'll be doing that in the Spring when it's time to put them back on again.
Word to the wise...buy GOOD rim locks for your rims, not shitty ones like I bought.

Go buy yourself a set of Gorilla “The System” locks.
Every nut is a lock and the locking teeth are on the OUTSIDE making them look like regular nuts when installed on the wheel.
All are the exact same weight each, so there isn’t a balance issue either.
Over 10,000 possible keys so you have to be DAMN creative to steal the wheels.
The key engagement is DEEP inside the hole so there is no way to get a tool over the “teeth”.
I paid 65-bucks for a set of (20) when I bought my wheels.

that isn't as bad as a local lube(i'm not going to say name but it's a national chain) broke off a wheel stud (what you bolt your rim to) and they claimed I broke it. I wasn't going to get in a giant fight over a 2-3 buck part. the reason i know they did is they were the last check the lugnuts to see if their tight. they had their air gun set at 110 lbs of torque where my car only rated for like 65 or 70 lbs. I was not happy. It's not the part wasn't expensive it just took time to put in the new stud. (cause i can take the calibers and everything apart (it took about hour or hour and half)
