I am going crazy this winter with the rattle!!
i searched all the threads with sunroof and other rattles, but most of them don't tell me how to fix it other than the silicon on the rubber. and i am way out of warranty on my 2001 CL-S so can someone help me out?
it's a tapping/knocking sound whenever i go over ANY kind of bump. there are 2 black plastic pieces of frame underneath the sunroof glass, near the front, on both sides, that i can push and it hits the glass, i think that's where the sound is coming from. anyone else have any experience with it? i'm pretty sure it's these black plastic parts hitting the glass.
can i just remove those plastic pieces all together? please help!

Man I am glad you posted this thread! I am in the same boat. I also am just started to hear this tapping or rattling sound that I cant pinpoint on where it is comin from, but I am for sure it is in the back. It sounds like the back rear passanger or the speaker deck or somewhere else. I got a buddy in the car and he said it was comin from the head liner. I also want to find and pinpoint on how to fix this annoying damn sound!! Sometimes it quits making the annoying sound?? :angryfire

get used to it boys its a rattle box. sunroof will always rattle - the recommended silicon or whatever will work for a little while and then it will start to rattle again. I just threw a suspension on and it rattles twice as much

so my tapping rattle is gone all of a sudden. yesterday i was really mad and just started banging on those black plastic pieces underneath the glass! haha, i'm sure it will come back, but that is where the rattle was most likely coming from. so check the 2 black plastic trim pieces near the front of the glass, on both sides.

my cl is a damn rattle factory when its cold outside...
most vehicles a couple years old are the tho, really no big deal.
Do you know that rattles are the number one customer complaint in the automotive industry??, and there are litterly hundreds of engineers per company who specialize in nothing else but elimintaing rattles.
They Break down components (such as the drivers side door) into stability based mathmatical system equations, with degrees of freedom aproaching 200,000+
crazy....

I find mine has only rattled when there has been snow/ice on it, and ive only had to drive it once like that as i got caught in the storm --- otherwise cold weather alone doesnt affect it...
Beleive me we have it good with the CL - i drive a 1999 chevy blazer, talk about rattles....!

I hate rattles too - that is why I like the sound system.
If it is really bothering you, weld a piece of steel in place of the sunroof, gut the interior, replace the seats with racing buckets, and remount the dash removing as much from it as you can - A/C ductwork, etc. Then you should have a rattle-free CL! hehe

TQ > MPG
Michigan roads + lowered suspension + JL13w7 about a year = lots of rattles.
I get the moonroof rattle over most large bumps, but I just keep the cover closed and almost never hear it over the radio. This has been the worst winter so far as far as rattles go, but hey the car has 70k miles, cant expect it to be a vault.

Just got rid of my rattle in the trunk!
I have a 2001 CL with the navigation system. For 6 months, I've tried to pin point the squeaky noise coming from my trunk. I finally figured it out. There are to bolts that are used to adjust the height of the DVD system for the navi. Over a period of time it probably got loose from driving. I used LOK-TITE and secured the bolt. No more squeaks.
Another rattle that I was the jack which I fixed a while back. Just needs to crank the jack to lower it to make it fit nice & tight. Good luck
