How is your car in snow???

It's snowing in Maryland right now and I literally can't drive my car. I can tell you from personal experience that the stock tires are about as good as ice skates on our CL-S.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164359

I should have purchased some Blizzaks but I didn't have the $$$.

QUESTION: What tires are you running in snow now? How do they perform?

You're having trouble with a FWD car in snow ?? Slow down...

My stocks were ok in snow, yokohama are better, but then again I never had a problem with driving in snow with RWD vehicles (my cls is my first FWD car).

I'm using Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires right now, not too bad in the snow, better than stock. The most snow I drove on so far was in Nashville around X-mas, so when I go out today I will see what it is like. I had Dunlop tires on last winter and they weren't too much better than stock.

yeah the stock tire suck

i wasted them in 28,000 miles and they sucked in snow/rain. now i have pilot sport a/s and they seemed to be much better. but now with 20,000 on them they seem to be loosing some grip, but still much better than stock.

I purchased my blue CL-P - used - with a few "lets look fast" all show no go mods.

The owner installed a spoiler and 17" CL-S rims.

I negotiated the original 16" rims into the purchase and immediately paid $382 for four BLIZZACK 205/60QR-16 WS-50's - which went on the 16" rims.

Kumho 's went on the 17"'s.

I have used the same BLIZZACKS on my rwd 95 Impala SS with the same excellent results. I am convinced the three or four times a winter when the conditions suddenly go to shit the $382 is chump change for the benefit derived.

They are NOT a high performance tire. At speeds over 100, maybe even 90ish, they feel as if they "grow" and "squirm" enough to make the Big SS feel dangerous playing cat & mouse with a little BMW heading south on Route 95 ! The CL is my wife's car, and I have yet to overdrive the snows - largely cause I don't very often drive it : )

For those so inclined to play reindeer games during the off season BLIZZACK has another snow tire that should be what you need - the LM-22, check 'em out at Tire Rack.

We got maybe two inches today, and I ran out to the store in the CL and had trouble getting her to slide around on the very slippery snow covered roads. I am convinced the BLIZZACK WS-50's are the best solution to having to drive in ice and snow.

I had no problem today in the snow. I was in Northeast DC all day. Drove a few times in neighborhood streets and up and down North Capitol Street.

I'm rolling on 225/45/17 Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. About 5k miles on these tires.

I think this car is great in light snow/slush. I feel very much in control in the bad weather. Our Subaru has a notch up on the CL with AWD, but the CL ain't too shabby.

6MT + FWD with hLSD and relatively heavy + 4 season tires + heated seats + heated mirrors = Good foul weather car.

Now the main roads are fine, they salted everything. I'm getting Blizzaks.

Blizzaks = super sticky and heat up really quick. Also, you aren't supposed to go more than 55-65 MPH on them if I recall correctly. At that speed they get REALLY REALLY hot.

Im riding on Falken Ziex ZE-512's and haven't had one problem. In my Forester I used to rip and run through the snow and I loved it. As long as I take my time with my CLS it seems to make it through just fine.

Not too bad. Haven't been out in a lot of snow this year yet. But last winter I had my 19's on and it was not all that bad. This year I have stocks and if they don't cut it I'll do blizzaks next year. Be safe guys and girls.

The studless snow/ice Blizzacks WS-50's are only speed rated to 85 MPH. Trust me, you can exceed that limit without a blowout, but it ain't pretty

stock tires always work just fine for me. Just leave VSA on and easy into the acceleration. Since our cars are fwd, its easy to spin them in the snow

We only got 3-inches of snow today, but I saw cars slipping all over the place.
Even my Blizzak’s were put to the test.
It was only 15-degrees out and the roads iced up quickly.

Made it home OK though and up my unplowed uphill driveway.

Last year when I drove a few miles on my stock wheels isnt bad to drive, but you have to pay attn to detail... Easing on the gas, and driving according to the road condition will ease on the slipping. If you have winter tires they are a definite plus... Can't say how they car is driving this winter in the snow since it still has the 19's on them, and is garaged parked. I have taken her out on a few occassions when the road is clean and no sign of salt or ice. Drove her on tuesday... Loved everything minute on the highway

For you philly folks, you would know that the local highways were a mess yesterday. Between accidents, car fires and just bad roads every highway was backed up for what seemed like forever.

I decided to take the back roads home, these roads have twists and turns, BIG inclines and declines. I drove slowly and carefully, but my blizzaks really impressed me. I never lost traction, the car was planted on turns and everything. Just yesterday, made the blizzaks well worth it.

Same thing here -- firmly planted in the light snow & slush with Sumitomo HTR+ Ultra high performance all season tires.

I agree…. BLIZZAK’s rule.
Although I think I should have replaced mine this year.
This is season number FIVE for mine and they’re pretty worn down.
I definitely need a new set in the fall.

Still better then my BRAND NEW Toyo’s worked though.

I am using blizzaks for the second winter now, they handle great in the snow. stock tires sucked, got no traction in the snow. Co-worker here as an 03 accord with the michelin pilots on like the CL, his car handles like crap with them as well.

I just got the Yokohama Avid V4s, and they are sweet. I got them at NTB for 93.50 per tire...

I've driven through snow, ice, and sleet. they work out very well.. well worth the money than that pieces of cr@p stock tires.

I'm getting the Yokohama Avid V4S next week. Just ordered them today after the dealer told me my stockers are almost "legally bald" after 45,000 miles. From what I've read the Yoko's will be a big improvement over the stockers. Can't get any worse from the experiences I've had so far!

I've used Blizzaks on all of my cars, and they do very well in the snow and ice. Up hill in the snow, my dad's 04 TL with stock Bridgestone Turanzas just started spinning, and wouldn't make it a quarter of the way up, but my CL-S with the Blizzaks went right up without much wheel spin at all. I highly recommend these tires to anyone that lives in an area that gets much snow.

QUESTION: What tires are you running in snow now? How do they perform?

I too drove in yesterday's mess from philly to maryland. I have Dunlop 5000 tires and had no problems. Others had many problems. I saw numerous pickup trucks, suvs, vans etc in wrecks. My CL is a 6-speed w/LSD. I have never owned a snow tire in my life.

I've thought that snow tires were for deep snow. Yesterday's problems were due to the minimal snow icing immediately as it hit the cold ground. Frankly, I think that ABS is far more important in slick conditions.

BTW, my wife drove her SHO (with the same tires) and also had no problems.

My stock tires have 33k on them and were next to useless yesterday outside Philly. could barely get up my short, relatively slight angled driveway. was hoping to get thru winter on them, but am gonna look up the yokohamas...

I bought steel rims and Blizzaks for the 2002 RSX-S I used to own, and found that they fit fine on the 2003 CL-S despite what Tire Rack states in their ads. With the FWD, the Blizzaks on all four and the manual tranny, the car is a tank in the snow.

From the land of snow

I have the Nokians mounted on 16 inch rims. The are absolutey fantastic on snow and ice. I have the ES100's as my summer tires and they are totally useless in any king of snow.

Roady are they 16's or 15's?

Mine has been ok. Not great, but not horrible. I dont think I'll NEED snow tires, but if I was on the western end of the state that gets lake effect I'd def get some Blizzacks.

Size is 205/55R16. These clear the CLS suspension, calipers, etc. This is the second year I have run these, and they are great in the Milwaukee winter.
