you most likely won't lose. The new body style is slower than the older due to a higher weight. Most of the times I have seen were low 15's in the 1/4. It will be a REALLY close race, but I have driven an STS before and they are not that fast.

I probably wouldn't put $$ down on it until you have I/H though

Well, I wil bet that with a good launch, you will inch him, the problem with us Caddys is that it is cole to impossible to not get nasty wheelspin off the line in a uhustle! Well, I thin darrin you stand a 80% chance, I have an ETC, and the if the STS driver doesnt knowhow to race his caddy, you will win. Dont race him 75-120, lol. From a dead stop He MIGHT get you, but just get a good launch!

It is going to be very close. If u spun a little bit off the line u might lose. Who is going to get the good launch will win since the race is just to 75. Dont even think about doing a roll with the STS because it does pull hard up top. It has TQ and the HP for rolls. Just try to get a good lanuch and hope he is not going to catch u.

You actually are right about the curb weight. I know the newer STS's are quite a bit heavier than the older version (about 300 lbs), and slower 0-60.
If you can pull on your mom's DTS, then I say you should have no problem. I think a well driven new STS is about a 15.0-15.2 second car, so I think you should beat it out. I say go for it

His strengths are off the line. You might want to extend that 0-75 to more like 0-90mph. That is more of a 1/4 mile. The STS has alot of Torque down low. You will take the STS in the high end until 110mph.

Interpret this how you want...

We all know the matchup between a STOCK GTP and a STOCK Type S, right?

well...while my GTP was stock, I raced my friends '01 STS from a dead stop a number of times. I won everytime. We switched cars (to make sure it wasnt just a driver issue) and the result was the same. The stock GTP beat the 300hp Northstar every time. We only raced up to about 75 (I cant really remember for sure) and at that time we didnt go from a roll. I know the caddy would've ripped me a new one from a roll... same with the CL-S. But I've taken a few shots at CL-S's from a roll in the past 2 weeks though, and I beat them all (yes, I have mods, otherwise that wouldn't have happened.). This past weekend my friend and I went for a little road trip and sure enough, from a 50 or so roll that caddy was pulling on me a bit.

Stock, I beat a caddy off the line.
Modified, the caddy beat me from a roll. (Yes he is still stock)

SO! From a stop, you should be good to go. Dont blow the launch. From a roll, dont waste your gas

Did this make any sense?? I keep re-reading it and I'm like.. huh

From a stop its gonna be a tight race, I would like to know the outcome so keep us informed. From a roll I wouldn't waste my gas thats what these V8s are made to do!!!

Nope thats all!!! I don't live in Fredneck but local! I don't have aftermarket exhaust either. My car ran 14.4 STOCK I had my 17s on when I ran that 13.9 I have 20s on now but got more work done since then so I don't know where I am. If I was to guess I would say I'm faster than the 13.9 I pulled. I will find out this weekend if it doesn't rain

Go kick that mofo's ass and take his money...but remember, do stop at 75 or you might as well hand him your money. The CLS strong point is off the line...don't worry about the STS's torque, it has lots of weight to move before it gets going, but once it gets going it should be pretty fast...although I never lost to any Cadillacs before in my 540...hell most of them are old women driving them in my area.

lol yea, the strip we race at is like 1/4 mile long, but if you do the full 1/4 mile you wont have any room to brake and you'll run into the ditch, so we go 0-75 ish, all my races are done at this strip so 0-75 is where my car really shines 75 is like the end of second gear, when i race there as soon as i shift into third i look in my rear view to see how bad i killed my opponent ( never looked ahead of my car cause no one has ever beat me before) then come to a comfortable stop

The STS is fater due to different tires and PAS, performance algorithm shifting. The fatest STSs were 95-96, 95 being a tad faster. Teh newer ones are slower becasue of all the new weight.

also it is a 4 speed auto not a 5 spd! SOO, again if you get a god launch you will just dandy.

The SLS is the dog off the line, having more "usable" torque, down low, but the STS is better with speed, as it has higher final drive ratios.

My bet is he cant race his car well, but you will probably just edge him, the CL is more consistent than the caddy. Even with TC and Stabilitrac, it is easy to really spin them tires!

let us know how it all goes!

OK...I love V8s and all, but

I have raced STSs and CLs from stops and rolls. I gotta say, I never met a stock Caddy i couldn't beat (sorry Caddyman), however, the CL was a tougher customer. The good thing about the Caddy is it's actually faster with the traction Control on and the lever left in 'D'. I think the best launcher will win the race. I gues it's harder to pull that Caddy above 80, so don't race it from a 4th gear roll, you may just lose. My question is this: If Stangs are so much quicker than the Caddy...and you guys just love to beat up on Stangs, why is there even this question posed when it should be an easy kill? Not flaming, just asking...

Anyway, it would be payday for me.

My $$$ is on the Acura.

Good Point!!!! If you can beat up on a GT then I wouldn't worry about a STS. But don't sleep on it or you will have a hard time reeling him in ...if you can

My money is still on the CL-S

It depends if it is stock totally, you will have him. But on all the 2000+ year cars, it is quicker with trac control off, pre 2000 cars you would have to leave traction contol on because it would start in 2nd. If you put the gear selector in 2 if you are drag racing, it raises line pressure and will chirp the tires into 2nd. Or you can disable TC for 15 ignition cycles and burn the tires from a stop. The CL is better off the line, and has the advantage of 5 spd!

I just wanna see the new 2005 STS with RWD, 5 spd auto...lol

BUT if it is modded, like one guy is runnin 12.9 in the 1/4, so if it is modded watch out, but if its stock ( I wont say it!)

But let us know how it goes, I wiuld still put the money on the driver with the best launch.

The DTS is nice choice. It is the best looking caddy in production now, until the XLR comes out. Though the STS is the fastest.

I will get some updated high res photos, but I wil have to hostthem first. The White Diamond paint is like new, the car is like new! I thinkthe Eldorado is a nice blend of performance and luxury. Too bad the pulled the plug on it, hopefully in 05+ they will come out with a new RWD one. But I am not counting on it

maybe they will...ever since 92, the ETC and the STS have been nice as hell...

yeah, the STS is faster than the DTS, but you said it yourself, it's the nicest...

That XLR is hot, but for 75 grand, I'll take the M5

even if they have the supercharged 405 hp model?

I wish they would offer it with a 6 speed as a rare "racing" option.. ya right..lol

but we can wish cant we?
