how much is this going to cost me?

i just got back from driving a 6 hour round trip today. i just stopped at a store and as i was leaving i put the car in gear and then it hesitated to move forward. then i did it again and it slipped again. i went home i waited about 15 -20 mins went outside tried it it didnt do it drove a little more and stopped parked put into gear it did it again my question is, is my transmission about to blow. i have a 2001 cl-s with 143,000 miles. im so worried this is going to cost me so big.

Or it's impossible to say until a diagnosis is made.

I got my 2nd transmission (that I'm currently on) for free because it was still under warranty. If it hadn't I'm pretty sure I would have been making a trip to get the Vaseline...

First I would take it to acura. See if they can give you some kinda goodwill or maybe even get you to pay partial for a new one. Paying part of it is better then paying for all of it.
If not then Sodaluvr has a couple ideas of where you can get a new tranny for about 3k I believe. But i say if you love the car and plan to keep it till the wheels fall off then go with my idea. Have ammco rebuilt your tranny for about 3k and get the lifetime warranty for an extra 1k. You will never have to worry about your transmission again. how many slush box drivers can say that?

find a honda/acura transmission specialist who knows the ins and outs about honda transmissions (especially one who knows about our f'ed up transmissions). You have somebody else rebuild it for you and your car will never feel like a acura again (i.e. jerky shifts, redline problems, e-shifting problems, etc.) After you do that, you'll probably be recommended on installing a transmission cooler. I have an acquaintance in Japan that drives an inspire (jspec TL) and she never had transmission problems, I assumed it was because it was built with a proper 3rd gear clutch pack and the fact that it comes with a transmission cooler from the factory.

This is just my opinion.

You can also call up several honda/acura dealerships and beg your ass off and how your a proud acura owner and how you've always maintained your loyalty to hondas and acuras and maybe they'll give you a new one for free. The probability of the new transmission failing is unlikely unless you start fucking around with the e-shifter left and right gunning it every chance you get to. I don't care what people say about how its not the driver's fault, but in some ways it is if you don't take care of it knowing you have a fragile transmission.

I'm on my 2nd transmission and I baby the bitch, get my transmission drain/filled frequently, haven't even put it in e-shift mode since the first day I got my 2nd one to test it out, and I don't gun it every chance I get - so far no problems.

oh yeah, other things I do just for the fuck sake of making my transmission live longer.

1. come to a complete stop when I reverse before I put it into drive
2. gate shift around park, drive, reverse slowly (yes, I've been told I drive like a bitch for doing this but fuck em, they don't know what transmissions we deal with)
3. when I put my car in drive, I don't immediately step on the gas, I let my car roll by itself for alittle bit and then press on the gas making sure the transmission catched the drive gear
4. I try not to go above 3500 rpm
5. I let off the gas so that the transmission can shift when its not shifting around 3000 rpm

these are just what I do and my personal strategy to not let my transmission get the best of my wallet.
