I used to work on cars when I was younger (I did a ground up restoration of a BMW 2002tii) but now I like cars with warrenties so I only change oil. That's it. Going to work with gunk under my fingernails isn't as cool as it was back then.

I pay $10 to change my oil...takes less time and cost me less than if I were to do it myself...tranny flush is free...coolant flush is free...
I used to do a lot of it myself on my corolla...change oil, tranny fluid w/ kit, brakes...but if I can get someone else to do it for cheap or free....I rather do that...just lazy..

I can change my air filter, does that count?
I wish I had the knowledge to be able to work on my car more. It's hard enough finding time to wash my car let alone working on it.

I like doing what ever i can, thats not covered by a warrenty, so i know how it works and when it stops working i know how to fix it! If something gets messed up I would rather be mad at myself than wanting to put tha smack down on someone else.

On my Honda's & Acura's I do all of my own. I had the dealer do an oil change/ service in a pinch, and they screwed that up. They didn't fill ANY fluids, and put the filter on too tight (split the rubber gasket).
I don't trust many people to work on my car -they don't care about it as much as I do.

CLPower,
No, the 2002tii was not quite as rare as the turbo. It had a special suspension and a mechanical fuel injection system. Still it was quite a bit faster than the standard version. It had around 150-160hp after I rebuilt and bored out the engine. For an ugly little box, it would move. Only weighted around 1400 pounds. I miss it... but I don't miss the 3 times it left me stranded.

Ahhh...a Tii...very nice. Had several friends who used to run them on Mulholland Drive in the late 70's. Properly setup, they were almost unbeatable in the twisties.
My own car work? Basics...oil change, filters and so on. Did all the heavy work years ago (including machining), but back then it was plugs/points/condenser/rotor/cap etc. None of this computer crap (unless you count a tach/dwell). You could actually get to stuff in the engine compartment. These days you have to be a plumber and a programmer to get anything done. And buying parts at a local parts house? Forget about it. But, I digress...

I'll do the easy stuff myself, like installing the Neuspeed upper strut brace, or the Comptech axle-back exhaust. Anything else that requires interpretation of shitty instructions (AEM CAI), or other stuff that is complex enough that I would screw up, I'll gladly pay a professional a reasonable fee to do the work.
The only routine maintenance I reguarly do is wash the car...and oh, yeah...check the air.

I've always worked in my cars and will do everything that I have the tools for.
I've heard the comment about if you payi 30K for the CL-S then you should have the money to have the work done. Everyody is entitled to their own opinions. I can pay to have everything done to my car. It comes down to peace of mind knowing I did it right.

Retired. Not available.
I do everything within my capacity for the following reason.
1. I dont trust my car in the hands of mechanics. They might do something funny to my car even at Acura dealer. I had my car repaired by Acura bodyshop and I ended up remove the quarter panel to re-align it.
2. It will cost more to have someone does it for you.
3. Do it yourself and you'll learn new things.
4. Do it yourself and you'll feel a lot better when someone compliments on mod than pay someone to do it.
5. Take your car to the shop and you'll save the time it takes to fill out the paperwork, wait around and/or the trouble of asking someone to pick up/ drop off at the shop.

As time goes on, I'm doing more and more work by myself or with the help of the local gas station.
I like the idea of being able to inspect the car with my own eyes.
This all gets back to not having a Wayne or Jens in my area. Even the tire dealer is a complete looser.
That old saying about, "If you want a job done well, do it yourself..." gets newer and fresher every day...

I have done extensive work on my '92 Ford Ranger. (Clutch replacement being the biggest job.) But with the CL-S, I take it to the dealer for warranty work, the local E-Z-Lube for oil changes, and performance shops for the mods. I wish I could do the work myself, but I don't have the tools or the time.
Thinking about starting to do some work on the Ranger again. It is lifted (Body lift and f-150 Springs) but I want to do some suspension work on it as well as add fiberglass body parts.

Have done everything to my CL so far. I enjoy working on my car, and I get the personal satisfaction of my won quality control when working on my car. I know I will do a good job. Peace of mind.

I do all my work myself on all my vehicles. I just don't trust mechanics. I have a pretty hooked up REX and I'm sure everybody in the garage would love to take it for joyrides. Do it yourself or at least learn, that way you know it was done right the first time. Either that or go to somebody you know will do a good job.

I've always done all the work on all of my cars myself...everything from swap and rebuild the engines, to fix and swap trannys and rear-ends. I can do just about anything on any car. When i want to be lazy and let somebody do something simple like change the oil and filter they always fuck it up.
Nobody takes pride in their work anymore even they are being paid at some garage. I hate paying someone to do something simple and when I get home I have to do the work over again and spend hours cleaning up the mess the incompetant fuck made on my car.
I dont have the time to do all the work anymore like when I was younger but if people would start caring more about their quality of service, I would trust them to do more. it just seems that everywhere you go people are just hurrying thru your job so they can collect the cash. No one takes satisfaction in doing it right and seing their effort pay off when you turn that key and hear the engine roar.
