How Many Agree Motor Trend Sucks?

Well I have been playin PS2 this whole week (dont even ask why.) So I just finished scimming and reading Motor Trends latest issue. Then I spot on page 124 a article on a 302 Z28 Camaro. Okay heres whats got me flamin WHATS HOT:302 keeps pulling to 7500 rpm, small cube bragging rights, still retains daily-driver ability.
WHATS NOT:Loud exhaust, rubbing rear tire, firm ride.
The "whats hot" part is okay but the "whats not" part isnt. Okay what the hell do they expect, they complain about a harsh ride and loud exhaust on a detroit mid 4 second 21st century muscle car, what the hell! Even last months issue was full of flames for the Speed Wars issue (M3 VS. ZO6 VS. Boxster S) Those guys are full of shit. They label the test Speed Wars and they give the victory to the car with the best ergonomics. Then on top of that they dont admit that they screwed up so they make up a lame excuse. Somebody tell me if im missing something!!!!

I notice alot fo the reviewers especially Edmunds aren't as critical on the domestics. What is acceptable in a Chevy would be unnacceptable in a Honda. I don't think that's the right thing to do.

I agree Scorpius. I think another thing that Motor Trend does is they give cars advantages just because there cheaper than its compettitors. So even though the car that costs more is better they give the cheap car the win just because its a middioker car but its cheap. I think thats very unfair.

does anyone think that motor trend gets paid by manufacturers for plugs on their products?

they are not the most fair in their rateings all the time.

I think all car mags try to be objective, but advertising revenue is where they make their $$. They certainly aren't making it with 12 month subscriptions for 8.99 or whatever deal they have going ! So they are not going to alienate the manufacturers too much imho.

Hmm... I'd have to disagree with that, after all the CL didn't get a very good review when compared to the 325. Or maybe that was Edmunds. At any rate maybe its an anomoly accross the board. Maybe all (US) auto critics tend to give domestics a better review. I don't know... To tell you the truth I don't read too many, all the time. I just noticed that when i was on the market for a car.

Yeah, the 330 beat the CL-S in the comparison, yet the TL-S beat the 330, even though the TL-S is a CL-S with 4 doors. All the numbers were the same between the TL-S and the CL-S, so no reason there should have been a difference in the comparrison result...... Bunch of morons there.

I used to read Motor Trend, AutoWeek, and Car and Driver cover to cover but none of them seem the same anymore. All they seem to want to review are exotics, out of the rich of 99% of the readers, and trucks, which I could care less about. I just want a good un-biased source for information.

Forget all that other info.--did my eyes read that right that the redline on that Z28 is 7500rpm????? Is that a tuned car or a stock model?

7500RPM for a V8 is pretty good. I remember back when the Corvettes with the 5.7L V8 had a redline of like 5000rpm.

I still think Autoweek is a great mag.
Because its a weekly they have to do more in-depth reports just to fill the pages.

There just isn't enough news in the car business each and every week so they have to make up the difference with excellent reporting on prototypes, design trends, internal car manufacturer politics stories, and racing coverage.

I'll take that over the monthly mega-magazine comparo that you get with MT, R&T, and C&D any day.

you read that right.

the camaro in the mt article is supposed to recall the original z/28s, which came with a short(er) stroke 302 intended for trans am racing. and, yes, those engines can rev.
