How Fast Are You Really?
I have been reading some of your guys recent posts and I must say some of your members are quite free W/ the insults toward The pontiac grand prix GTP. I also understand how you could think that the GTP is a dated Domestic because I have owned a few Acuras and some Hondas in my lifetime and they are deffanately fun to drive. I swiched over to the GTP because they were so fast and there was such a good base of knowledge out on the internet.
Here is the question: I have a 4 door automatic 3660lb car that with only $854 worth of performance mods can smoke most modified mustang gt's, most decently modified s2000's and countless civics W/ swaps and nos or turbos. I also am required to wear a helmet when going down the strip. Can you beet me? And if you can I would like to hear your quarter mile time and if you are near Dallas I would love to line up W/ you.
I do agree you have quick, good looking cars but if you think the GTP is such a slouch, prove it.

On average I run 13.7's to 13.9's. That's running on 45 series street tires. My 60' times suck! And remember this is on less than 1K in upgrades. I basicly have intake, pulley, and full exhaust. from the factory I have heard of times from the mid 15's down to the mid 14's. the reason is the driver, I know it sounds crazy but it is really hard to launch the GTP's. I know of a few GTP guys that are running consistant 12.4's with a factory exhaust and not even opening up the engines except for rockers

Were alot like you, our biggest problem is tranny. We blow the diffs all the time. Another problem is when you go up above 11lbs of boost you start geting serious knock retard. Thats when you have got to do some interesting stuff to cool down the engine.
and no, it's not tinfoil! My intake air temp from factory would on average read about 70*-100* above the outside air temp. Now it reads on average 10* above the outside temp. The moral of the story is every car has its limiting factors but the way you tackle them is what makes it fun.

if you're running mustang gts and s2000s, you're running stronger than 99% of the cls on this forum.
give us a couple more years of development though...

Well... not at this very moment due to the snow... She didn't want to spend quite that much, but... Um... somehow I was talked into co-signing her loan... I think if she goes with a Pontiac, it'll be just the base Grand Prix, not the Supercharged one. Also, she's not too fond of the 2dr.

Ummm... no. She wants something less than three years old (now that I'm helping with the finance part). Its on hold right now, until the snow clears and her semester ends... She's still in school.

I'm 24 and I had insurance through State Farm for my 2000 GTX. I have a clean record and was paying 1300 per year. (that's with 25/50/25 coverage with 250/250 deductable)
I'll tell you right now, If the only reason you don't get a GTP and settle for a GT is due to insurance rates. Get the GTP. Most insurance companies DON'T have a seperate class for the GTP. Mine was listed as a GT when I had Response Insurance. State Farm was a GTP, but was only $50 more per YEAR.
As for CL-S versus GTP. I miss my GTX wholehearteldy and would prefer it over my CL-S, but the CL-S is much more luxurious and has some nice standard features that are option on GTP's. However, the BIGGEST drawback of the CL-S is not having the HUD that the GTP had. (oh.. and the torque....)
Nice to see no bashing in here finally.

I must agree with the Vampire dude!
There is plenty of cars that will be faster than the CL-S. In this class, very few will match it in luxury, standard features and looks.
Sure, GT-P is fast, but I did not even consider them when shopping for my new car. If forced, I probably would have picked the Bonnoville vs. the GTP. More luxurious, I think they cary the same S/C 6, and looks better too. I did test drive 330Ci, IS300, etc. CL-S came out ahead though. IS300 was underpowered, and BMW wanted almost 14K for the logo (no way!)
GT-P looks bad now, but it'll get worse as time passes.
