How does the CL hold up in an accident

My girl was in philly this morning and some chick is coming down a one lane road while my gf is going the other way. Its raining like hell and the woman flies over into my gfs lane and hits her head on in the drivers side. The lady hits her so hard that my gf got pushed into a barrier on the other side of the road. So her front drivers side and hood is destroyed, her airbags got deployed, headlights smashed, and the whole right side of the car got scraped from the barrier.

I am in Pittsburgh so I havent got to see the car yet, what does everyone think about the damages. My gf said she was going about 30mph and the lady was going about 40.

This sucks........

They are well built cars. I got rear ended at a decent clip and the damage was not as bad as the sound of the impact.

Glad she's OK.

The CL is very good at holding up and protecting the passengers. Who cares about the car, that's what insurance is for.

The CL does hold up well. The car is likely totaled.

Wow, that is pretty crazy for people to be doin that. I'm hoping for the best for your g/f but the car does sound totaled or at least pretty expensive to fix.

The car is most likely totalled, but thats your insurance company's problem. Your problem is your g/f. I hope she's alright.

CL's one of the safest cars out there, i'm sure she's ok, other than minor bumps and bruises (if anything). As far as the repair in this case, i'd say it will be close to being totaled, especially if there's any engine (or underhood parts) damage.

thats messed up yo!... hopes shes ok... id hate to have that happen to my girl.

my insurance company totaled my car for... list of damages (hood, headlights, frontbumper and radiatior support)
pretty much a list of replaceable parts, but since the car is a pretty rare car to see on the road the parts are harder to get and in turn cost more. Since ur airbag deployed the car is pretty much a goner (airbags are hella expensive!!)... time to start shoppin around for another ride

The car is definitely totalled, I don't even need to see it to know that. But your g/f is alright and that's what matters.

But, I have to add to this that the CL will be totalled because it will be more expensive to repair than it is worth (or it will exceed a threshold of value per the insurance company) - not because the CL is "rare" or parts are "hard to get". The CL was a mass produced Acura whose parts are available through any Acura dealer, and a great majority of the parts are shared with the much more popular TL. The CL isn't a limited production, exclusive sportscar.

Hey, thanks everyone for the well wishes. I am sitting here with her now and she says thanks too. Her neck and back is killing her but all else is well.

I went and took some pictures, its mainly the front drivers side. Based on what I saw, here is the list of physical damage.
1.) Hood, Gone
2.) Bumper, Gone
3.) Front Drivers side tire and rim, Gone
4.) Front Passenger tire and rim, Theres a huge scrape on the rim and tire, so it depends.
5.) Rear passenger quarter panel, scraped and dented.
6.) Rear bumper, scraped.
7.) Airbags Deployed on driver and passanger side.
8.) Driver side Headlight, GONE
9.) Drivers side front panel, GONE
10.) Most likely alot of front suspension work.

I will post pics tomorrow when I have time, Thanks for all the help.

CL is a solid car, however, I believe that car will look like trash. Most def it will be totalled. I was in an accident in my CL last year...It was raining hard, plus tinted windows, plus cars blocking my view as I was going to cross an intersection. I literally took my foot of the brake and barely had time to press the gas (being an auto it began to roll)...I cut off a van doing 40-50 mph, it hit me from the passenger side in the front bumper just in front of the front wheels, instantly im turning left and I can see into the engine bay from my drivers seat! The hood popped up in a v shape, and the whole front end was smashed and shifted to the left. I didnt have on a seat belt, I wasnt hurt, but the car looked awful...a total of $15k in damages. I thought it would be totalled, but insurance fixed it. It seemed like a simple hit, but once I got out to look at everything, I was like .

Being that I was barely moving and my car looked like crap, and your gf was moving and got hit head on, I'd say thanks to the CL for her safety, but the car is gone.

Glad your ok gettin hit by a van and all. The good thing is, the car who hit her was an old Toyota Camry, the other girls car didnt even have an air bag. The CL definitely won the battle. We went to the collision garage and the camry was there too, it looked like it went 12 rounds with Frazier.

CL 1
Camry 0

Also, what value of the car does the insurance company go by. Is it KBB, NADA...??? Also, do they go by dealer trade-in value, private party, or dealer rate.

i think they have their own value book. and it's usually 75-80% of car value will total a car out.

Its official.

The 2002 Cl-S with 83,000 miles is a goner. Insurance is going to give her $15,500 for the car. Plus another $270 for her tint job and $115 for the rear sway bar that I put on the car.

I keep asking her what kind of car she wants, and you all want to know her answer. She wants another damn CL-S, I can't blame her, we both love our cars.

Time to look for another CL-S, if anyone is selling a 2003 Black/Anthricite/Satin Silver with Navi and under 60,000 miles, you might have yourself a buyer. Oh ya, she can't drive a stick either. So it gotta be an auto

I don't blame her either. She survived a head on collision in a CL. Who wouldn't want one now?
