CL6....do you have this problem? If not what did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

And will that Momo boot work with anyother shiftknob?? Cuz I just got the TSX Shift knob and I spent quit a bit of money on it and I do not want it to go to waste. But that is a good looking boot. If it will fit I will have to invest.

Thanks.
Hmm???? I wonder if you guys got the old version of the shift kit somehow? It used to do that & then they changed the design. The 2 I had never had a problem.

I had no clue that they had 2 different versions but I dont care it is what it is. And I gotta fix it. Double sided tape was a good idea. Thanks.

The first is the example of what is done to my shift boot.

The second and third are the shift boot I'd like to get rid of.

OK.. I just installed a Momo Race AirLeather Shift knob with a Endurance shift boot (short) and the Endurance finisher ring. Here are a couple of notes that should be helpful to anyone changing the shift boot and knob.

1. The staples suck... what a stupid way for Acura to install this thing... WTF!!! Do NOT use an industrial staple gun as someone suggested. This is how I broke the white plastic piece that goes under the shift knob/gray plastic plate assembly. Now the dumbass assembly pops out of place sometimes when I shift. I bought some double sided tape today to solve that problem!

I used Super Glue designed for leather and plastic instead of the staples. This has held for about 3 months now. Screw the staples! I am not saying it cant be done properly, but your asking for trouble if you go this route!

If you break the white plastic part, you have to buy the whole shift boot assembly... and it is fecking expensive to get just that piece (>$138).

2. To use the Endurance boot and finisher ring, you have to file out the inside of the finisher ring to make it fit over the "bend" in the shifter. Not a big deal... but just good to know ahead of time(especially if you are allready super frustrated cause you just broke that white plastic piece of crap! )

3. This setup looks awesome, once you get it installed right. I know this post is useless without pics, but I dont have my camera anymore. And anyway, if you guys saw how good it looked you would just copy it!

4. I didnt realize how bad the stock knob sucked until I replaced it. If you havent allready, change it up! The Momo shift knob with Endurance boot and finisher ring is P*I*M*P. You wont be dissapointed!

Good write up. The double sided tape is crucial. Originally Acura used some kind of silicone type sealer to go around the boot. The only problem I have with my Momo knob is held tight with three little tiny screws and they work their way loose eventually. I wrapped the top of the shift lever in electrical tape. The I put the shift knob on top of that and tightened down the screws, which 'bite' into the soft tape and seem to hold it tighter longer.

The CL shift knob is the same as the Prelude and the NSX and I always thought it was was too tall. Get a short shift adaptor from Neuspeed too. That and a shorter Momo knob is awesome.

Didn't your Momo shift knob come with varios sized little black rubber things that go over the metal top of the shift lever? Mine came with a bunch of these and you find the correct size and put it on before the shift knob. This helps to hold it in place.

I have been worried about the shift knob coming loose, but so far so good. Did you alternate tightening the 3 screws, so that you are tightening each one a little bit at a time?

Yeah the rubber things. That got chewed up pretty quick. Use the electrical tape and the rubber thing. I tightened the screws one at a time. They do work themselves loose, but it takes 4-6 months for mine. Still, I prefer that over the stock knob.

I just saw on the Acura site, under used models, it says the 03 CLS 6MT has

'Leather shift boot (manual transmission only)'.

It sure doesn't feel, look, or smell like leather? Must have changed to poly?
