How do I used JACK-STANDS with this car ???
I was all ready to tackle painting my calipers today but then I hit a wall.
How the HELL do you jack the car up and put the stands in the same place the jack is lifting from.
Obviously this is impossible, so where are the other lifting points?
I thought the manual had something in, but all it has is basic instructions on changing a flat.
I know the HELM had this info, but I don’t have mine anymore.
I was planning to put my floor jack on the very edge of that “lifting tab” we have under there and put the jack stand right beside it.
But there isn’t enough room to get both in there at the same time.
The “tie down” lugs in the very front of the car don’t look strong enough to support the car and you would need to get that area quite high to get the stands in place further back on the car.
I’m usually willing to experiment, but I had flashbacks of that post a few months back of someone who jacked the car wrong and ended up with a busted floorboard and fudged up car.
And what about the rear of the car as well ???
Usually I’m the one supplying answers to questions on this Forum, but now I need some help.
Thanks,
Shawn S

if u look underneth ur car, u will see a bar that runs from the front to the back. it's not really a bar, it looks like a square. jack it up there and put the jack stands there. The car comes with little tabs that ur supposed to jack it up from, but jack will just crush them an crack ur paint. any questions, i'll post pics

I don’t see the FRONT to BACK tube you’re talking about.

Yeah I agree with shoofin...I would use the tow hooks if you can find them. The rear one should be easy to find, then you can place the jacks where you usually would raise the car with the stock jack.

Shawn, don't take any chances. I didn't.
I ran into the same problem. I don't quite remember how I solved the problem when I painted my calipers but I do remember that the car was not supported by jackstands. Maybe just the floor jack in the front of the car and one wheel at a time with the scissor jack as a backup.
In any case, I was not comfortable with placing a jackstand underneath any part of the vehicle except the one spot that's made for it. As you can see, all kinds of explanations long on descriptions and short on details. Same thing last year with the same questions. I started jacking and I heard the creaking and said "...no way!"
I wouldn't take a chance having the car fall or the bottom floorboard ruined. Not for painted calipers. Several people have done it on this forum.

A “search” of previous threads dug up the post by Eclipse where his factory jack collapsed when he was using it.
Ernie, What ever happened with that ???
I did get some good information in THIS THREAD that I will probably use when I give it another try next weekend.

RIGHT THERE!!!!
Shawn, I have done about 5 different suspension installs just on my TL....because I had H&R OE, then Ground Control, then put in new shocks after I installed Ground Controls, then take GC's out, and put in H&R Sports, about 5 different oil changes by myself...and painting brake calipers...etc. the list goes on, my point is...I used the following spot to jack up the car...yes it is a bolt head...but I have heard people use it before...and have used it that many times and never heard creaking or any damage from it....also some others have told me to use that spot and it is very stable...I learned this because I used to jack it up from the square tube that goes the length of the side of the car and it actually got pushed in a little, good thing I was using some wood on top of the jack or else it would have punctured a hole in my floor pan...anyways use that bolt head I circled to jack it up and then put jackstands on factory jack points....there is a same bolt for the rears also...anyways take cares!

Image from the manual:They recommend hoisting it on the tow points and placing the jack stands under the normal jack points.

theres mad spots on this cars frame/suspension that are reinforced enough to jack it.
problem is... if your car is low as mine you need a super low profile floor jack with a crazy high lift height.
pain in the ass.
