How do I know when the tranny is going out?

Lately my shifting has been getting alittle rough. And I've noticed that my RPMs are alittle higher that usual. The day before I blew through a yellow light in SS. When I reached 6500 in second I threw it into 3rd and the tranny slipped to 7000, as it was shifting into 3rd. Im only at 18800 and I was wondering is this a sign that my tranny is about to go out?

well the sliping is a good sign it's probably going out. take it to acura and let them look at it. when the tranns goes your check engin light will come on. i should know i'm on my THIRD TRANNY. the last tranny was sliping for a long time before it finally went out.

Well Mine is slipping and the check engin light is not on yet. When I brought it in to have them take a look at it they told me that the Tranny oil is burnt up and it just needs a fluid flush for 120. Now was you fluid "burned up" as well or did they tell you. Should I not have the fluid changed and just let the tranny go out. If I do that wont they just tell me that I didnt change the fluid like they recomended and thats why it went out.

hers the story of my last tranny problem,

i was on my second tranny and it was sliping for along time. finally it got so bad it would change gears in the middle of me driving (D4 TO N). i would be driving and the engin revs would go up but the car would go no were like it was in N but i was in D4. so i took it to acura and told them the problem( tranny was gone). so they took the car that moring and said they had a tranny speciallist look at the car all day and he said it was fine there was nothing wrong with the car but i need a tranny flush. i knew this was bullshit i know my car and the way it drives, i knew my tranny was fucked. well i let them do the flush and picked the car up that night. then when i was comming home from school the FUCKING TRANNY BLEW acura told me it would be 4200 dollars for a new tranny, thats when my dad got invalved needless to say i got a new tranny for a total of 600 dollars. o yea i was out of warrenty to.

Bro thats BULLSHIT

I flushed my own tranny at 15500 on the odometer. After doing so I got better shifts and higher MPG, WTF? So now I'm at (just made it to) 19002 and its begining to slip real bad. When I was no the freeway yesterday I gunned it. From D5 to D3 my tranny had to drop, but did it go into D3, nope. It just redlined till I let off the gas alittle and then it went into 3rd and then I gunned it.
Ah FastVtecCL what I want to know is what ur poptold Acura in order to get u a new tranny for only $600. Also after how many average mile were u going through trannies?

NOLACLS,
I just thought that i would tell you that when my tranny was starting to go the dealer flushed my tranny fluid and also told me that it was burnt!!! this was all done for free under warrenty!!! THis only helped for a few days and then it went back to slipping agian!! I went back later in the week and after a few hours of waiting i finally had to take the service manager around the block to show him how bad it was getting...They then put me in a rental car and replaced the tranny!!

Has anyone use a nonhonda tranny fluid when they changed the fluid? Or was everyone still using their original fluid?? Also, seems like a lot of the trannies that fail have headers or CAI or other mods added on?

I have never chaged the fluid myslef and have only allowed the acura dealer to change it, so i'm figuring that they only usehonda fluid!! As for mods to cars, I only have a CAI and nothing else. Iknow that there have been some people here that have bone stock cars that has had the tranny fail....

I noticed that this morning my car jerked really bad when I was taking off the driveway ( going left). The CLS was bit cold so I said it could be the problem....

Then later on I noticed that it shifted wierd ( kind jerky) I will keep an eye ont it.... Only 23,000 miles!

For now, I am blaming the cold weather, but once I have a real slip, or a gear stuck, then I will run to dealer and give them some more business,.... sad isn't it!

Actually, I think most people whose trannies have failed were stock or close to it. I also haven't heard of someone using anything but Honda tranny fluid.
