How come the MDX doesn't have HIDs?

I was wondering why the MDX doesn't have HID Xenon headlamps. My guess is to cut costs, but is there another? With Acura trying to put as many features as possible into their cars, this suprises me.

Possibly because it would blind people looking in their rear view mirror. If you ask me, I would buy an MDX if I knew I was going to send everyone to the Brail Institute.

lol. I see your point, but there are many SUVs out there with xenons...some of them taller than Acura's "car based" MDX

Have you noticed how BMW has their Xenon "purple nurple" lights pointed wwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyy down on the X5? one of my coworkers has one and we park near each other everynow and then. you have to walk up a flight of stairs to this grassy hill where the actual parking lot is for the office building, anyway, to make it short, his lights when turned on don't blind me like mine do when the car is at a higher altitude. My best guess is that Acura has not found a solution for a patter of light that won't blind oncoming traffic yet with their HID's. However, I could have sworn I've seen an MDX that has HIDs...maybe I had one too many that night...

im almost positive that the mdx has zenons as an option. it has nothing to do with blinding people. just most people dont want to spent the extra money to get them as an option.

i went to the acura web site and tried to build my own MDX, and couldnt find zenon lights as an option anywhere. so thats why im not 100% positive about them being an option. i could swear that i have seen an MDX with zenon's before.

anyone got an MDX with zenons?

MDX does NOT have H.I.D.'s as an option. if you saw one its because they got them from hids4less.com or some other place. check the acuramdx.org. most of them got the stage II aftermarket hids acura does not supply them OEM. stupid acura.

Yup, no HIDs on MDX. My best guess is that SUVs would require self-leveling HIDs (MB sport-ute has them) and those start to get spendy. The 'political incorrectness' of HIDs on SUVs may also have something to do with it, given Honda's green image...

Give Acura time and I am pretty sure they'll add it on to the MDX. Look at the RX300 when it first came out. It didn't have HIDs until the redesign.

it is due to laws requiring a vehicle other than a car to have self leveling HIDs and that is too costly for Acura...
