How to clean under the hood?

Under the hood is dirty as hell. Whats the best way to clean it? Is there anything that should not get wet? I dont have a cover on the battery, is it OK to get wet? Thanks for the help.

when i was in the car wash in the other day..i saw a dude just use the high pressure water to spray at his engine..i did the same to my car..so i think it would be okay....by the way..my engine bay is so clean now

imo..it's safer to cover the battery if you can..at least you will feel more comfortable cleaning it..OR..just skip the battery..just my 0.2

if it's just dusty not greasy, take it to a powerwash and blast the shit out of it. if you want it to look super nice spray some water based dressing (armor all) on the motor, etc. while it's still wet. close your hood and drive away. when it's dry, which doesn't take too long it will look new, all nice and shiny. if it's really dirty/greasy get some degreaser and spray that shit down b4 you powerwash.

Hahaha mattg, did you steal the bug that was up my butt earlier?

Anyway, I just used the damp cloth I dried my car with to wipe out the engine bay surfaces. Worked good enough.

Btw, there's nothing funnier than putting the hood up on your stock engine bay at a car show and having people gawk over it wondering what they're looking at.

That was fuckin' GOLDEN at the Tysons' meet.

you should watch out for the battery, distributer and spark plugs. your car can run perfect that day, but the next its broken if you soak these areas.

same here, i just wipe the eng. compartment w/ the damp terry towel i used to dry the car. it's easy to keep it looking new. neglect it and you will pay.

What about gunk? I heard of people using it before. I have never personnally used it. I had a friend of mine borrow my riding lawnmower. I asked him to change the oil in it before he used it, and when he was finished, to hose off the oil that he spilt. He used gunk to clean the whole rear of the engine. Stuff must work good, becuase it was still clean when I went pick it up. I know it was built up pretty bad before I let him take it.
