How can you get the dash lights to go all the way off?

I drive at night quite abit and the lowest setting on the dimmer does not turn the lights off on my 03CL and my other Hondas and Acuras.

Every Toyota I've ever been in let's you turn the dash lights completely off.

Can I change out the dimmer switch or something?

The lights are there for a reason, so you can see the status of your engine/speed/engine temp. when it is dark. I really dont see the point in not being able to read that type of information....?

Of course you can change the dimmer. It would be an aftermarket install though.

there are two power wires and two ground wires that go into the dimmer switch.

take one of the power wires and bridge it with a push button switch. (on-off)

youre done. and its easier than installing another dimmer

disconnect the dimmer switch and that will take care of them. or like some one mentioned earlier, hook up an on/off switch to the power or ground wire.

yea I don't get it. That happened to me once back in Oregon with my gsr, I was driving on a highway and a fuse blew out........ My dash lights shut off along with my tailights......... scared the shit out of me because I thought it was my headlights that turned off since you get used to having the light from the dash shine on your face

He doesn't visit that often, but I've met him at one of the meets... I'm sure he has a legit reason...

I'm sure it has to do pupil dilation and eye fatigue. Less bright sources of light at night means less pupil contraction means you can see better and stay awake as well. Having said that, the lowest dimming setting is sufficient imo. Perhaps the OP drives/travels at night for really long periods at a time. I also assume this is for when he drives on the highway. If it's for city driving then wtf???

wow, i didnt think this topic was that uncommon ---

I always drive on the lowest setting

Now i dont drive with them off ever, but i like it as low as possible... and wish the CL would go lower (having them one level up from completely off is comfortable for me)

Some friends of mine are on the other end of the spectrum and like it bright inside the car... Ive got one friend who keeps his LCD screen as bright as possible --- annoys the hell out of me

Thanks folks.

Greeny, we met at two meets. Any more coming up?

The reason I like the dash lights low is because I drive at night on the highway quite a bit and it just bugs me. At least an hour every night in the winter. I'm used to the lowest setting but I'd like it off. In fact, I turn the navi off most of the time just so it doesn't beam into my brain.

I'll go with the off switch before the dimmer approach.

What does "OP" mean anyway?
