How about this knob???

I promised myself and my wife that I wasn't going to mod my car. Maybe some tint, but that is about it.

Ok, so maybe a shift knob too... But that's it!!!

What does everyone think of this thing? Like it, or not?

Be honest, but no flames please...

I like my knob to have some substance up top - either oval, round, or grip shaped.

How do you like to grab your knob? I gently cup my hand over the top, or around the front of it and pull/push. I would find this one uncomfortable.

I think this one would be comfortable only if you gripped the thing with your whole hand (like when you pull on the parking brake). I don't use that much force to shift so I don't need a full hand grip (in fact, I hardly use any force).

I ended up picking the basic shape after feeling a lot of knobs in a tuner store that I stumbled into. They had a whole rack of knobs and I felt them all.

Feeling a lot of knobs sounds a bit

Sorry Scrib, I'm not feelin' it.. That knob looks like I should be playing Space Invaders instead of shifting..

IMO the *best* shifter is in the Ferrari: (gate & all)
http://www.titaniumcavallino.com/ferrari/ferrindex.html

Round, fits right in the palm of your hand no matter where you're shifting from/too.

I don't like it. But if you like it. That's all it matters.

Everyone has their own taste. So if you like it and it makes you happy. GO FOR IT!!!!

I couldn't get the Ferrari link to work, but I'd guess that it's something like my Team Voodoo Knob that I got from http://www.ricks2k.com/products/shiftknob.php

See this page for the other Team Voodoo styles: http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/Knobs.html

It looks like they have them available for Nissan Trucks...could your G35 have the same thread design? http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/Applications.html

Hmmmmmm... It seems the G's knob is not a "standard fitting knob"... Whatever that means...

Can you post a pic of the original knob? That one doesn't look too bad.

I don’t like it. It doesn’t look like it would be comfortable unless you got little GIRLY HANDS.
I like something with some weight and substance to grab hold of.

MOMO knobs come with several different rubber adapters for different diameter shafts.
They don’t even use the stock threads that are on there.
They use three setscrews to lock the knob in position.
That’s a much better attachment method then threads anyway because you don’t have to worry about the gate pattern position when the threads snug up.

I highly recommend the Titanium knob but for $30 the Aluminum knob cost you cant go wrong. Oh and definetly get the Magnum size for the manly look.

no way dude. It looks weird first of all, but more importantly the way you'd have to position your hand to shift doesn't seem like it would be comfortable.

Momo, eh???

I didn't even think of them until you mentioned it...

Can anyone find/recommend me a good looking momo knob... Something that'll match the interior of the G, in silver...

Like I said, they come with like SIX different rubber shaft adapters so I’m sure one of them should work.

I think that Momo is a bit too small. I like the Race Air series like Shawn S has in fiber, there's also one that's leather covered and one that's all metal. I also like the Shot in silver carbon.

You really have to feel them and try them out before you buy. After all, you're buying both for looks and shift feel. I really love the feel of my solid chuck of Titanium alloy much more then any Momo I tried.

I prefer the stock to that one, Scrib. Looks like it wouldn't be a comfortable place to rest your paw while cruising. I like the material, but not the shape.

I have them on the S2000, and the feel of it is great! Got that understated look to them.

Do what I did.
Go to your local custom “speed shop” that sells them for 10% over retail plus tax and check them out and get a feel for what you want.
Then go home fire up your PC and order it online for cheaper.

Listen to the guy with no tint on his car and the stylish wheelwell trim talking about “tacky”.
Scooter…. When are you getting the curb feelers installed ???

This was my point too...

...you really need to feel and see these in person to get the true gist of it.

yeah listen to the guy who has $0.99 deer "horns" that look like they've gone through the dryer one too many times who thinks a Momo knob is a performance mod

What would YOU know about a performance shifter? :pfawk:
All you do is sit down and put it in D

It is a performance mod -- a very minor one -- but one nonetheless.

I know that Shawn S produced some nice images about how lowering the top of the shifter shortens the actual shift.

The stock knob is quite tall compared to many of these knob shift handles.

...maybe not much of an issue when you're going around in your D5, but for us with the six speed M/T, it does make a tiny difference.

The throws on my car are already insanely short...

I guess it'd be more cosmetic than performance. I do like the look of Shawn's knob ... Only in all silver.
