Horse power in CL-S

Hey guys, I just heard that we can add about 100 more horse power to the cl-s. Do you believe it? I have mines up to 300hp.

I have to go over to New Jersery to ask the person who did it about the mods. Give me some time. But the cost is about $700.

Intake ~ 12 hp
Pulley ~ 7 hp (maybe)
Exhaust ~ 5 hp (reasonable, usually it's less on our cars)
Headers ~ 32hp (by dyno report)
ECU ~ 7 hp (ecu upgrade on our car's doesn't help much because they are already tuned pretty damn good, or so i've heard)
S/C ~ 50 hp (underestimate)

these aren't mods i've done to my car, but are the mods that are available that i can think of off the top of my head, and these only add up to about

total: 373 hp
$ Total: $8400 (estimate by going prices)

how'd u get that much for under $1000? damn sign me up now!!!!

why do people still add up HP increases like this??? there is no fucking way that a CL-S with intake and headers has an extra 40 whp... thats totally insane....no one has ever gotten that and no one ever will get that..

when can we stop it with the little list of mods and what they add?!!! its total BS and anyone who mods cars and dynos cars knows this....look at JohnTypeS for example, he has virtually every single mod available for our car with the exception of the S/C and nitrous

hes got headers, intake, Vtec controller, Fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs, comptech exhaust, and he dynos about 248 hp i beleive...now if we were to add up his mods with the bone-head chart of intake = 12, headers = 32, vtec controller = 7, exhaust = 5 he should be dynoing WAAAAYYY higher than he actually is, but like most people understand, you cant add the HP increases like that, it just doesnt work that way....

we can add up horsepower like that as estimates (that's why i said estimate!) and this is the estimated hp rating of the engine, not what is at the wheel. that's why your friends dyno rating was so much lower, check out http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dy...cls6spd_sc.pdf and you'll see that the hp level is lower than 260 anyways.

I think he should go FORWARD a year and see if there’s any 2004/2005 CL Brochures at the Acura Dealerships.
Answer that question once and for all.

the reason a car dynos lower is because advertised HP ratings are ALWAYS taken at the crankshaft, not at the wheels, when a CL-S is advertised at 260 HP, sure, thats at the CRANK, by the time the engine turns the tranny and the tranny turns the axel and the axle turns the wheel, the power is down to about 200....

its all marketing...well with the exception of a car like the new cobra and the dodge SRT-4..those fuckers are putting down at the wheels what the advertised crank HP is, if not MORE...thats obviously a underestimation on the part of the manufactuer

you don't get that much of a loss.. you don't lose 60 horse power just going to the wheels ESPECIALLY not on a manual... get your head out of your ass..

actually jimcol711 is on the money on this, we both kinda said the same thing in our posts above, there is a loss from the crank to the wheel, it all depends on how the car was engineered.

but we didnt' say we lose 60hp, actually our cars we only loose about 30 between the crank and the wheel. for proof of that look at the dyno's on comptech's site.

Actually our automatics are losing around 22% to the wheels and the manuals about 17%, not the best but certainly not the worst...

get my head out of my ass?? too bad theres many many dynos that show automatic transmission CL-S baseline dyno of 200 WHP or less....lets see here

260 (advertised HP) - 200 (dyno hp) = 60 HP DRIVETRAIN LOSS

is that simple enough to understand???

the average automatic CL-S baseline dyno is definately not above 200 hp..most get between 195-205, with the majority falling at 200 or less.....as far as 6-speed CL-S...the best ive seen for a baseline Dyno was somehting like 222 hp...with an average of around 215.....fact is, our cars lose a shitload of HP...either that or acura over-rated them. one or the other.

check your resources before you tell someone to get their head out of their ass.

thank you

While I admit that Jim often has his head in that very place at times, he IS correct THIS time.

Of course no-one that I'm aware of has actually dyno'ed (is that still the right term) the engine at the crank. We're taking Acura's word that we're starting from a baseline of 260 crank HP. Only they know if that quote is real or not.

Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Jim and Shawn are absolutely right on this one slyraskal. The dyno figures back this up. Maybe it's a case of the kettle calling the pot black here! :pfawk:
