defect that can allow them to roll away when they are parked.
![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
The cars were built for the 1997-2002 model years. The automaker conducted a
similar repair of nearly 600,000 other Honda and Acura vehicles in late
2003. In both cases a flaw in the ignition interlock system allows a driver
to remove the key when the transmission is not in park. The rollaway danger
occurs when a motorist leaves the vehicle without
shifting into park or applying the emergency brake, the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration says.
The recall involves some 1999-2002 Honda Accords, 1997-2001 Honda Preludes
and 1999-2000 Acura TLs.
Honda told NHTSA it believes the defect has developed in less than 0.05
percent of the recalled vehicles, or 250 cars. But it is installing an
improved interlock lever in all of them, the automaker says. There is no way
to predict which cars will fail, said William Willen, managing counsel in
Honda's regulatory office.
Honda plans an additional repair of those cars that already have had an
interlock failure. The automaker says it has not defined that repair.

Documents on file with NHTSA show the recall covers only vehicles with
interlocks from an unidentified Japanese supplier. Cars with parts from a
U.S. supplier do not appear defective.
The earlier recall involved some 1998-99 Honda Accords and Acura CLs and
1999 Honda Odysseys and Acura TLs.

Seems a bit backwards doesn't it?

About 2 years ago I had a car wash place somehow remove my key with the car in drive. It didn't roll or anything, but I was bewildered when they handed me the key and I went into the car only to discover it was in drive! Morons - needless to say I never went back there again.

About 250 cars or .05% and that promps a recall but not the transmission problem

Oh well, people who can't operate machines are the reason lawyers exist.
i agree but no one was born a perfect driver, and with such flaws like the interlock ;lawsuits, lawyers, and recalls exist.
