Honda Care Extended warranty and air bag problems
Guys, I am checking to see if any of you have ever dealt with getting Air Bag malfunctions replaced under the Honda Care Extended Warranty coverage?
I see in the paper work that the Warranty does cover the SRS Control Unit and
SRS Cable Reel, however it does not cover the airbag(s), and the Safety Restraint System.
According to a diagnosis by a Honda tech the problem with the car is:
FOUND DTC 13-3 SIDE IMPACT SENSOR FAILURE AND SRS CONTROL UNIT FAILURE.
RESET DTC AND TEST DROVE 3 MILES. LIGHT DID NOT RETURN IF SRS LIGHT
RETURNS SIDE IMPACT SENSORS AND SOS UNIT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.
Of course the light did end up turning back on, so there is obviously a problem.
The dealer, and the first person I spoke to at the Honda Customer Service # said that since the SRS system is not covered under warranty that no part of the repair would be covered.
The dealer reports the fix for this error code according to their TSB's is to replace the entire SRS System (control unit, wiring, front/side sensors, and airbags) which is going to be $2000 or so repair.
I started questioning the dealer if they could attempt to replace things covered under the warranty first (mainly the control unit) but they said that they would need to do the entire repair or nothing at all. I asked if there would be a credit for the parts covered under the warranty and I think they said no to that as well.
Has anyone delt with this situation before? Does anyone have any recommendations on how to save a little money? Would it be worth trying to go to an independant mechanic to have him actually diagnose the problem instead of just taking a "fix all" diagnosis that Honda is going to do?
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

dude it sucks, many here have had issues with the SRS system and components failing. I need sensors or the SRS Unit replaced they said. Screw that, I just go back and have the light reset

Yeah, it does suck. There has got to be some way to convince them to cover part of the repair.
The car is due for inspection next month so I need to decide what to do because it won't pass for inspection with the lights on. Maybe the light can be disabled?

Another reason I traded mine in, as some "passenger" module went out costing me $290.00 plus tax and labor (SRS system) !

Try the junk yard, maybe you can do a direct swap and the light goes away - other then that... Honda Morons at their worst... For $2k you can get a g35c lease ... they will give you around $16k for your cls to share in the lease ...

Actually I shoulda mentioned this problem is on a friends accord, not my CL.
However my CL is currently at the dealer getting its 3rd transmission installed So that G35c is sounding mighty tasty.
On another note... the dealer loaned me a 2004 TSX with only 5000 miles on it... that is a pretty nice little car. Power sucks, but other than that a really nice ride.
