it all depends on the manufacture of the part. the recall is due to a faulty part so they just have to track down where those faulty parts ended up and recall those vehicles.

FYI the automakers get your contact info from the state government agencies. That is one of the many reasons you register your car every year.

I was trying to crash into a tree, but I somehow missed it and ran over a group of Girl Scouts and kittens. There was blood everywhere, and hair is stuck in my grill. I got out of there quickly though.

And yes, I got a few boxes of Thin Mints.

Dude your fucking crazy.

This airbag recall sucks btw. Don't want to go to the dealer but luckily my boy works there and he will be the only one to touch my car if, and when it goes in. Plus I'll have him do a check-up or an oil change, etc while it's there.

Yea, if my car is part of the recall Im not looking forward to having someone I don't know drive my car.

I wonder if my Honda dealer can do the work? I know the techs there and they don't screw around.

Another thing Ive wondered; for those that have swapped out the stock steering wheel for the RSX wheel, what happens if the RSX is under the recall too? How do we get a new airbag in that situation?

Nope. Apparently doin 45mph into a heard of Girl Scouts isn't enough force for the airbags to deploy. One of them cracked my windshield though

negative ghost rider the sensor only detects when the seat is occupied and the passenger is not seated properly. In that case it will PREVENT the airbag from deploying. if there is a passenger seated correctly or the seat is empty, the airbag WILL deploy

Well that's good to know that the car responded properly. But it makes me wonder why it goes off when there is no passenger in the seat. Think of the extra cost to replace that airbag when it has no impact on the safety of the car if there is no one in the passenger seat.

I'm not an engineer so I will guess they did their research as to why the airbag should deploy if there is no one in that seat.

Its simpler that way. It acts somewhat as a failsafe. If the seat sensor fails, the airbag still goes off.

Just got off the phone with American Honda.

Gave the guy my VIN and he said nothing. They are aware of the recall and are scheduling appointments if effected. But the guy said my 03 CLS isn't effected.

Airbag deployment

Anyone know if my airbag deployment/replacement in Dec. 2009 would need to have the inflater replaced?

No. They are designed for a minimum of 15-year lifetime in most cases but after that airbag performance is usually not a problem.

Yep, got a letter in July about the airbag recall for my 03 CL. Took my car into the dealer. Luckily, the serial # for the airbag was not one that needed replacing.

For Immediate Release
Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding
Driver’s Airbag Inflator Recall Expansion
TORRANCE, Calif. – Dec. 1, 2011 – Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles to replace the driver’s airbag inflator originally installed in approximately 273,000 additional vehicles sold in the U.S. Affected driver’s airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality.
Separately, Honda has also determined that approximately 640 affected driver’s airbag service parts were sold for installation in vehicles for collision repair or other vehicle service. Because Honda is unable to determine the specific vehicles that may have received the affected service parts through existing information, Honda will inspect an additional approximately 603,000 vehicles and replace those parts as necessary.
This recall now includes certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, 2001 to 2003 Civic, 2001 to 2003 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.
Honda is aware of several incidents related to this recall and expansions, and is announcing this further recall expansion to encourage all owners of included vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive mailed notification from Honda. Notification to the expanded group of customers will begin in late December 2011.
When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, in late December, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles
