Ham Radio Install

I am a Ham Radio operator (KB1 GWO) I am looking for a nice way to mount my 2 meter antenna ... Has any one done this, would love to see pics. In the past I have owned crap cars, and just drilled a 1 inch hole in the trunk, don't want to do this to the CL.

I used to use a thru-glass short 2-meter antenna on my pickup. The antenna, on the outside, was held in place by 2-way-tape as was the matching antenna end part on the inside. It worked just fine but about once a year I'd have to replace the tape or risk losing the antenna. I'd find one of them and use it on the back window, or possibly even a side window, if I were you, then there would be no reason to drill any holes in anything. The antenna mast was a tapered wire, about 18" long. It was meant to be mounted vertically, or very near-so.

Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-METER-GLAS...#ht_500wt_1156

That will be a switch for me to use through the glass ... but it makes sense. I use a COMET HP-32 which is a very heavy sturdy antenna ... will most likely have to go with something thinner & lighter ... black instead of chrome as well.

Before he passed, my father was an avid HAM from the mid 1960's. He had all kinds of antenna towers and Sat. dishes in the back yard, lol.

I remember how he loved to bounce signals off the moon and talk to people all over the world. He also loved to build powerful Amps. which he sold on ebay. Good times.

I agree, thru-glass antenna would be the best way to go for the CL. Drilling a hole to mount an antenna would be cosmetically very distructive.

However, on my 2003 CL, I have that OnStar rubber ducky antenna that could be replaced with a dual-bander antenna. Not sure what modifications would be necessary.

I think if I drilled a hole in the I might get put on the 'bad list' of this forum. I can't have that.

Yea, I'd avoid drilling into the metal. Big risk of rust.
