HIt the speed limiter at 148 mph

WARNING DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

i dont think i'll ever do that again, i've hit 140 like 3 times and 145 once but finaly got the limiter today, 4th gear is fuckin garbage, 5th gear is useless in this situation its an over drive gear man, what shitty gearing, if 4th ended at 125 or 130 then 5th took us to the limiter that would be nice

i had a camera in the car but i forgot to take a pic of the dash , theres alot more goin through my mind at 145 than takin a pic, like if i get pulled over right now imma prolly go to jail and not frive for a long time , o well i just wanted to give it a shot

why you need to go 148MPH on public roads?

In anycase, if you shit in your pants for doing 148 MPH for few seconds, imagine those who are driving on the AutoBahn doing sustained 140MPH for like 2 hrs!

Nahsua.

The autobahn was also designed for high speeds, and more importantly is maintained properly so people can do those speeds safely. Not so here.

only way i speed round here is if the road is newly paved...

section out route 9a from croton train station all the way to the indian point exit is great for high speed driving... nice and new too, and the taconic parkway from white plains to yorktown is great too

Hitting the rev limiter is almost like hitting the brakes. I hit the rev limiter in 3rd in my CLS 6sp and it felt like someone through an anchor out the window. I thought the rev limiter was suppose to limit the revs not cut the engine fuel flow completely where the car almost does a nose dive. Any thoughts...

agreed, dont do it on the streets. ive done it on the freeway a few times in the middle of the night when no ones on the road. but blah. wasnt really worth it. it is kinda fun at those speeds though. everything passes by fast. shits scary when you hit the limiter, it feels like the car is being thrown back.

Actually what Darin is referring to is the speed limiter, not a rev limiter. The difference is that rev limiters are there to protect the engine from over-revving, but the speed limiter is usually there because of a couple things. Most times it's because of the OEM tire speed rating, but sometimes it's because of aerodynamic lift that could cause unsafe handling among other things.

I hit 148 more then once in my car. But also it was straight HW the limit was 70MPH, & no cars in sight. I really don't like how light this cars feels at that speed. Just doesn't feel very stable after 130mph. Yeah yeah it's not safe, I shouldn't do it blah blah blah. I should go to jail, I'm a bad driver, I'm unsafe, I know.

Wasn't it Darrin who recently thought his transmission was going out???

I don't know if I would want to be doing 140+ and have the car drop into 2nd...

That's why I've only gone 145 I don't want to reach the limiter.

I dont know, maybe I'm just immune to the car being so-called unstable at high speeds but I got the car up to 148 on the Meadowbrook Pkwy (for you LI'ers) and the car felt fine. No lift, no shaking, nothing. I had my best friend in the car with me too and he was shocked how solid it felt at that speed. Im on stock wheels and suspension, and my previous car was a VW GTI dropped 2-2 1/2", sways, and wider rims, I got that car up to 135 and it didnt feel as solid as the CL

Took it from the SS pkwy North bound on the Meadowbrook and hit 148 just after Hempsted Trpk, theres a small exit just after (dont recall the name) I think its like 2 exits before Roosevelt Field Mall shut it down and got off at the mall exit.

Re: "its smokey central": EVERYONE SAYS THAT!! I have never seen a trooper in that area ever... Guess I'm just lucky, knock on wood.

thank yer lucky stars...i've been gunned by laser multiple times late at night from the bridges and the center grassy knolls behind shrubbery...and they're state troopers too that patrol the Meadowbrook, so there's not much mercy they're gonna give ya

Do you talk to your transaxle too, since you add a salutation when referring to it??

Jeebus...that is fast. I had it up to 220kph (around 135mph?) and it fely very solid. The speed didn't phase me as I can hit 220kph on my bike (totally different though ~ that was fricken scary). BUT, when I pushed it to 230 kph (140-145mph) the front end did start to feel light and I was most definitely not comfortable (mine is stock). Its funny after driving 220/135 for 5-10 minutes, that 180/110 actually seems slow!

In case any canucks are wondering where, it was on the new highway from Freddy to Moncton, on the stretch that goes through the Army Training Area (no cops that I've ever seen). No traffic, clear day, dry road, no x-wind, no Moose either

Where did you run, Darrin? I've hit 135 on I-96 eastbound. Car had more to go, but I was approaching a narrow turn and had to back off.

darrinb, I run I-96 back and forth across the state almost weekly for 6-7 years. There are only a few places I've seen any speed traps, and hardly ever. The last 3-4 weeks they have been all over the place, and being really sneaky about it too, (bastards).

145 ain't shyt! Try hittin 165+ on a bike. Now that's a freakin rush!!!!!

When I first got my acura, I hit 145 on the I-75 and though that was something. Until I got my bike, hitting 145 is no problem and done almost EVERY TIME I RIDE with no effort.

But keep in mind there is a big difference between 2 and 4 wheels. With the car, it seems faster at 145. on the bike, 145 really does not feel like anything. Weird.

I never see cops on 96. 696 there's usually someone waiting to swoop down and nab you in the canal, but 96 is usually free. 75 is a fucking pig haven though, i NEVER speed on that bitch.

I do 100-120 whenever i'm coming west from detroit home at like 3 in the morning. The car feels ok up to about there, anything more and it's just too floaty for me.

I took the CL to 135 once I think with the turbo... didn't feel that fast even - quite smooth. Took the NSX to 170 once... felt like 100mph And the Civic to 181-something <-- THAT was scary and will probably never do again.
