HIT AND RUN (LONG!!!)

I went for a drive it was beautiful 70 no humidity...sun roof open windows down...i get to this light and im in the middle and here's this four/by/four old like late 70's explore or blazer or somethin...im a few cars back and the light turns and we all proceed preety slow lots of traffic almost imediately he jumps in my lane and is so far up my ass i feel a little uncomfortable so i start to coast mainting most of my speed but trying to get a little distance between me and the car in front i was only about a car length at 40-45 mph this guy was soo close all i could see was his grill so i lay on the horn.............he doesnt move and the traffic breaks up and i get the hell out of there i mean gone i get about a thousand yards or more but then catch a light...he's coming up behind me now the light changes and we start to go but the traffics heavy again then traffic really slows a cop with flashers i have to slow some more for the cars ahead of me and he comes up and BOOM nails me his car was so high his bumper hits my trunk about where the acura letters are i go to pull over and he just jets and were practically next to a cop!!!! ...he starts racing away but i follwo he turns and i know he's heading towards a part of town that the fire trucks cant even go to needless to sat he lost me the trunks pretty bad i think it has to be replaced my neck is killing me and ill bet it was a stolen tag! oh ya at one point he pulled over telling me to get out and it looked like he had a gun i was about 50-75 yds and already had it in reverse he said come on i said ill wait for the cops he repeated what i said and tore off the the dirt roads

I had something similar happen to me last June. I was sideswiped by a Ford Bronco (big one). His windows were tinted and I could not see the driver. He swerved out into me as I was passing him on 2 lane Rt17A from Florida (NY) to Warwick, NY. Hit my right front fender, right door, rear wheel, and rear quarter panel. $1850 worth of damage. I started to pull over and he started to also, then when I was off the road, he ran for it. I caught him in no time but he was doing crazy stuff, passing on the right at over 100mph and throwing beer bottles out the window. I caught up with him just enough to get his plate number. I flagged down a cop but there was not much they could do because I could not tell who or what was driving (male or female). It cost me the deductible and a huge increase in premium. I found the guy and I saw that he put the truck up for sale. I took pictures of it but it was so beat up, I could prove nothing. Still makes me mad just to think about it. My CL-S was a little over 1 month old when it happened.

It's scary shit, but I don't get why your premium would increase. It was a hit and run and you were not at fault... Does this vary from state to state??

What a dick!! I hate SUV's and whenever they get too close, I make them test their brakes--only when I'm in my old pickup of course. Sue his ass..........he'll probably say he didn't realize he hit you or something dumb like that. Get a neck brace....and get a lawyer. Man that makes me mad. Sorry about your car TypeR.

that sucks, dude...the problem with crap like that is you can sue, but they probably have nothing to sue for anyway.

you can get an order to get his stuff seized and auctioned off, but that costs you and he probably doesn't have anything worth enough for you to recoup your legal costs as well as for your damages.

i had the same thing happen to me twice, once with my previous car (hit and run, but got his plates...BUT couldn't identify driver, he had no insurance anyway).
same with my motorcycle, except it wasn't a hit and run, but he didn't have insurance and didn't respond to any legal action.

the things people can get away with these days...makes me think twice about being a law abiding citizen.

A thousand different situations, a thousand different laws, talking to police, talking to lawyers, talking to the insurance company....

Here's my suggestion. Don't be there. When someone appears to be menacing, let them go by or you turn off someplace. It's not being a coward or running scare but consider the alternative: he could have shot at your vehicle. Then you would have what you have now plus a hole in the dash and a little fear for about a month.

Anyway, glad you weren't hurt but for everyone else, chasing a vehicle is not the thing to do. If an accident occurs, you will be at fault, regardless what happened previously. Then you really won't want to talk to your insurance company or the police or the new victim.

Even if the car is stolen and he threatened you with a gun, and he hit and run; you've re-escalated the situation by going after him. Why?

Get what you can get (description, plates) before and during the incident. Afterward, let it go.

My 2 cents.

typeR, I feel your pain!! The Red Rocket recently was dealt a damaging blow, though nowhere near as scary as your incident appears to have been. In the end, were both stuck with a damaged CL, with any luck they'll catch your guy. Me, I gots nuttin' to go on. Misery loves company.

This reminds me of an incident I witnessed today. I was parked in the Home Depot parking lot talking to the girlfriend on the cell. There were a couple of open spaces nearby and some carts scattered about as well. A guy in a SUV is looking to park about 3 spaces away from me diagonally. There's a cart in the spot, very close to another car. This jackass decided to back into the space, pushing the cart closer to the other cars side mirror. He stops with the cart now wedged btwn his truck and the other car. He's able to get out no prob, but the cart is directly in the way of the drivers door of the car. I put down my window and yell at the jackass "Could park any closer to that car?" He turned away and went inside. Meanwhile, another SUV is looking to back into the open space to my right, with a cart at the head of the space. Scared, and amazed, I back out as quickly as possible before this dick does something to me. What makes this even worse is that the G/F is screaming at me for swearing and wondering why I'm getting all pissed off. It was unfathomable to me that she not understand my rage in light of my recent trajedy at the hands of disrespectful, ignorant individuals. We argued for a few more minutes and I eventually hung up. As if my disdain for the general populous couldn't get any worse, it did. I had to stop at the ATM to get cash. Its one of those standalone ATMs with a small enclosed area (there's no branch). There was one car there, I pull up to the right of her. She leaves as I enter the ATM. As she drives off, some dumbass pulls up to the right of my car about 8" away from my pass. door. Why he did this, who the fuck knows, as there was ample (20'+ of room to the right) parking space. I could see where his door hit mine though luckily there weren't any scratches or dents. Stupid F'ing people.

I guess that's enough ranting for now, sorry if I've offended.
