Hillbilly + rock = chip + ticket and some questions

I was heading home after work on Friday and came up on a pack of traffic and ended up behind this moronic dude with a jacked up truck and no mugflaps. Usually not a big deal, i stay back about 4 car lenghts and flash my lights and just wait for him to move over. Well this moron decides to stay at 40mph in the left lane for like 5 miles, while all the other traffic is passing us on the right. So i'm trying to get around him but the traffic to the right is blocking my move, and then BAM!!! His big ass tires shoot a rock at my hood and chip my windshield. Well now i'm full on pissed and swearing up a storm. So i notice the HOV is open for a couple hundred yards and decide to wip around him. Well the minute i get back around into the regular lanes a cop speeds up on my tail and pulls me over. He says i was "Aggressively Driving" which is a $520 fine in MD, but that he'll give me a break and let me go with a $70 "HOV restriction" ticket. I tried to explain my reasoning and showed him the chip on my windshield but of course he didn't give a rats ass.

Anyone know if an "HOV Restriction"
ticket adds points to your license?

Now i have a chip on my hood and windshield plus i'm out $70 bucks. What a great Friday night that was.

Wow, the laws seem to be particularly strict in the mid-Atlantic and all points north.

Usually HOV is a 1-point violation in Virginia. Not sure in Maryland. I think it may still be zero points. HOV never used to be a point violation until 2 years ago because they realized that rich people would gladly pay the small $70 fine every few weeks for the pleasure of riding in HOV. Giving them a 1-point violation took care of that problem, sorta.

Bottom line, it is points in Virginia, I have no idea in Maryland.

Yeah, I see. I must say moving here 2 years ago from Minnesota and before that Texas, I'm finding Kansas to be quite a [relaxing] change.

One day in my life I do plan to move to California or Las Vegas but in the meantime...the overall quality of life is great here for now.

I have a $0 deductible on glass with my car insurance policy. It's still a pain if you need to get a windshield replaced but at least it's covered. Maybe you can get something like this too (for the future).

Sorry to hear Bullet,i think we're all probably guilty of slipping over into that "car pool" lane once in our lives.God forbid a cop ever pulls one of these morons over for blocking the left lane or dropping trash.

If I had a nickle for every commercial vehicle that an improperly covered load of sandblasting and anti-car mines, I'd be a very rich man.

The law says they are responsible, but when you here the sound of a million B-Bs hitting your car and you see 5 SUVs and 6-8 big rigs with garbage flying out. What are you going to do?

Call work, tell then your going to be late, and chase 6-8 trucks?

The other problem is they leave the stuff on the road (just like laying anti-personal mines). Then cars, trucks, and 4x4s without mud-flaps come along and kick up all of the sand and grit, and fling it into the bumper, hood, and windshield.

Hmmm... I can just see running back and forth across the freeway collecting sand and rock samples to send to the crime lab unit for further investigation.

Heck, most of the time you have to have someone killing you to get an officer to come. (well, rape and mayhem will do as well).

Just a day in the life on "some" of the commercial fwy routes.
