does color affect price?
you guys know what color I'm talkin bout
now that my CL-P is so close to being sold, I've begun having dreams about a aegean blue CL-S! Especially at this time of the year, right before the '02's are comin out .. but the problem is that since they arent all that readily available, I'm afraid that I might not be able to get a good deal if I ask for a blue vs. a almost as beautiful black, or silver one ?
anyone on here bought a aegean blue '01 CL-S in the US? what kinda deals did ya get?

The only color that costs more usually, is RED. I can't remember why. But RED paint, and shades of it, cost more to make. I believe Acura absorbs this cost. But I know that Chrysler adds a line on the sticker for RED. If I am not mistaken it costs 100-300 more.

I also think colour affects the price as it related to consumer demand. If everybody wants a red car, the price of a red car will be higher.

The dealer tried and tried to sell me a red CL-S. I really liked the "hot" look, but my wife was there to remind me of tickets, tickets, and more tickets, They had a few of the reds, but the one they wanted to push on me already had the S badge gone. My wife asked, "Do they remove that because the car is red?" I just said, "I don't have a clue". The Silver and Black were in and were 6 mile cars. I liked the Silver and the dealer was willing to make a deal.
When I asked about the White color with the light color interior, all negotiations stoppled. Hmmm... the temperature was about 115 degrees out in the valley, and every body was wiping ice cubes on their head. I was told the white would not be a no-deal car *and* they would put me on a waiting list.
I think the price depends on the time, season, dealer, and supply.

When I was buying my car the dealer quoted me a price of $31000 for a type S w/Navi (white). He added that if I wanted the same car in gold, it would be a $1000 cheaper. I'm not making any comments about the wonderful PDG colour but back in June of 2000 PDG was not a hot color. So color did mean something as to price.

Most dealers just come up with any bullshit they can to rip you off. One dealer in Miami pretty much knew I wanted it in silver so they gave me a higher price for that color, I don't remember exactly how much higher, all I know is I sent them to hell and went to Rick Case Acura.

Color will be more important to the resale value of the car, unless we are talking about gold. The dealerships were discounting that color two grand from the get go. The dealership where I purchased mine was lucky enough to sell 4 of them before the unlucky customers knew what hit them. One has already been traded back in I'd hate to tell you what the dealership bought it back for. The three remaining gold cars have gone into the service loaner dept.
Red will always be a good resale color, because people will always like that color. It is more visible so they say red cars get more tickets, but the also say that the get into fewer accidents.
Unless you never take a black car out of the garage, I feel that they show too much wear and that affects resale.
I'm glad I went with silver.

Well, the best price a dealer's given me for a silver CL-S w/o navi is $28.5K but the same dealer would not go below sticker for the only blue on the lot!!! Damn, the law of supply and demand... Damn, economics... OK, I feel better.

Actually there are believed to be seversal reasons why barns are red: 1. blood can be mixed with milk to create a base paint to protect the wood against the elements, 2. Red was a symbol of wealth and prosperity in the 17th/18th century, 3. The red on green pastures helped to mark a land ownership - so as to avoid land feuding. Red is also a base color which can be made with even the most basic ingredients - until you start going shiny . . .
As for nabster's question, I think you should get the blue cl-s for about 400-600 over invoice. Dealerships don't want to give them up cheap, but they can order more - they would rather get the sell and a happy customer, then force a sell, or lose a customer AND get bad word of mouth. Just tell them you heard good things about their dealership, and that you think you want the blue, but you're not sure. If you don't get all giddy over the car, you should walk out with 500 or so over invoice. Supply and Demand work into the equation, but there are plenty of blue cars to go around. I saw my dealership had 2 or 3 blue cl-s on lot, but i went in almost sold on red with parchment. I have gotten so many comments about the beauty of the Acura Red, so I would buy red again, and again.. plus it matches my honda motorcycle red..... :-)

When I was getting my white one, the dealer had alot of golds and they said no one would buy it so they offered like 300 over invoice on the gold. But I still opted out and got the white.

"Ferrous oxide (rust), a primary component of red paint, is inexpensive and this appealed to the thrifty farmers" http://museum.cl.msu.edu/barn/storie...006/index.html
Iron oxide is naturally red and inexpensive and was a readily available element at the time, it was applied to barns for protection against inclement weather
(Red Ochre) Natural mineral consisting of silica and clay owing its color to iron oxide. It is found throughout the world...The pigment has good hiding power and excellent permanence in all media.
