If you have an auto, it is the car telling you that you can't stay in 1. I HATE the fact that we are locked out of 1 in the SS. My Prelude wasn't like that, I heard the TL isn't like that. What is the fun of SS if the play in 1st and 2nd gear is done for you? I will slow down to 10-20mph, stomp on it in sport shift and the car desides that I want 1st gear (I do). But if I could just do it myself...

Do you mean when the automatic transmission "speed shifts" at redline into second gear? When that happens with my car, the front tires spin. Are you refering to that as roughness?

Also the RSX you can control 1st in SS.
Jusst gate shift if you want to control 1st.
