High Boost Pulley on 91 octane??
Does any one know if the HBP-5.5lbs from Comptech will work on California's 91 gas or is running it on 91? If not, is there some sort of additive or octane booster available out there which could be used with it?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

i don't think they reccommend using the HBP w/ 91 octane.

Per our conversation yesterday, quite honestly we don't know for sure. The theorectical maximum boost for the 91 octane on 10.5:1 CR is about 5.5 PSI non-intercooled boost, which is where the pulley would put it. On 93 octane and the same non-intercooled boost it is about 6.5 PSI.
So in theory it could work fine. I would love to see someone try it; they can always go back if knock is present.

Power3dfx lives where I live... it gets to 100+ during the summer and all we have is 91-octane. He has the Velocity-something HBP, not the Comptech one; figure its the same. I drove his car, raced next to him etc., didn't hear any knock.

Winters are pretty mild there but it can still get cool at night. That is when the knock, if any, will appear. It seems that during the warmer weather the ECU pulls enough timing to keep knock at bay.

summers rarely reach 100+ here, but they do in the area allmotor lives in. i am closer to the santa monica bay and that means i usually get 10 degrees difference between the sf valley and santa monica area.
i think in the summer the 10 degree gap will widen as the ocean tends to take longer to heat up than land and can therefore cool us down better here. but as steve points out, knock isnt a problem with higher temps. and in cali, the coldest ive seen is nothing below 50, and even numbers approaching that is rare as well.
i run nothing but Chevron 91, and i am generally a calm driver. I will try mixing some 76 100 octane to achieve a rating of 93-94 and see if that makes a difference at all.
but overall i think you can get away with it. only time will tell..

That would have been the Comptech HBP.
