High Beam comparo - Optiblue vs. Hiper Industries *pics*

a little background...a looong time ago, i purchased the OptiBlues for $40 shipped...a few weeks ago, 1 of the bulbs broke...so i ordered another set...i was sent these Hiper Industries Super Plasma bulbs...at first, i was pissed cuz the wattage was less (80 vs. OptiBlue's 100) and the Kelvin was less (4000K vs. OptiBlue's 5000K)...but after doing a side-by-side, the Hiper bulbs were bluer, so i figured i'd try them out...they're just as good as the OptiBlues, if not better...y? b/c the beam is more pronounced than the OptiBlues, and there's no reduction in distance the light travels...plus if u look at the Hiper bulbs, they're a little shorter, fatter, the coil and electrodes are larger and longer, which extends life, so i'll c how they fare...i ordered the Hiper blubs through Autodynamic.com the same as if i was ordering the OptiBlues, so either these r the same, or Autodynamic sent me the wrong bulbs...i've checked everything, and it says OptiBlue all over the place, so i dunno

here r some pics

OptiBlues...

Hiper Industries...

Blown OptiBlue bulb on left...notice the coil is half there...bulb in the background with the orange ring at the base is the Hiper bulb

finally, OptiBlue on the left and Hiper bulb on the right...notice how the Hiper is slightly darker...it is more noticeable in person...also notice how the coil and electrode are longer in the Hiper bulb

if anyone wants closer pics of something, lemme know, and i'll try my best to get some clear close-up shots

Damn. You had me convinced that my next small purchase would be the OptiBlues... You really think these new bulbs are okay? Everything I've read up to now says to stick with name brands (Sylvania, Polarg, Piaa, Philips).

Secondly, have you had any problems with cops? I could see being harassed just because it *looked* like I had blue lights on my car. I've never even seen ricers in this area with blue headlight bulbs. I think I'd be okay, though, since I *have* seen tons of people around here with the windshield sprayer LEDs that were *actually* blue lights.

Looks good Scooter.. I just bought the PIAA 19615... I think they might last longer than the opt-blues... well they better I paid 60 bucks for them..LOL...

We need to do a write up on the parking light and front turn signal bulb install.... The PIAA 19228 (1157 bulb) would look sweet in the turn signals and the PIAA 19172 for the front parking light assembly...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this mean that if you're using them in the High Beams, it's 100w, and if you're using them as low they are 80w??

I was guessing that it was saying that they are 80W bulbs, but they are comparible to 100W bulbs...

Well, the pics look pretty good. It all boils down to how long they last now.

I do. I got my Osram 6000k for like $240 shipped overnight. I think the prices are cheaper now. Shoot me an email and I'll give you the guy's name...need to go look it up.

it means they're 80 watt bulbs that give the same output as 100 watt bulbs...that may explain y my OptiBlue's broke...i use my highbeams as often as everyone else...the wattage may just have been too high (the OptiBlue's r 100 watts)

keep in mind the design changes in the Hiper bulbs...longer electrode and bigger coil...these small refinements may help extend the bulb's life even longer

I've had optiblue's in my civic for about 3 years now, I used the high beams constantly for 3 months when my denji projector headlamp wouldn't ground out the low beams. The bulbs are still in there and as blue as ever. I payed 11 bucks for mine at procarparts.com. where I bought every replacement buldb for both cars. I've tried Nokya, Hiper, Piaa, Eurolite, and Optiblue, honestly the bluest and the brightest happened to be the cheapest....Toucans industies, Eurolite Bulbs, You just can't beat them. I can't find them out here in Illinois, In california there were everywhere. I'll see you all this weekend the 27th after I try to place at HIN at Mcormic place on Saturday

i'm sure u can...the problem is on Autodynamic.com, i ordered what i THOUGHT were the OptiBlue's, but when i got the package, i got the Hiper bulbs...after checking the receipt, the online confirm, and the webpage multiple times, i concluded everything matched up to the OptiBlue's...i cannot explain y i got Hiper bulbs...since i like these bulbs, i'll keep them

i think these Hiper's r just as good as the OptiBlues...the Hiper's ARE darker blue than the OptiBlue's tho, so i guess that tips the scale in the Hiper direction

This means that they use 80W but put out the light of a 100W bulb.

My PIAA's are 60W and put out the light of a 120W bulb. I am guessing that is a little on the wishful thinking side, but thats what it says on the case!!! They are also 4000K. They don't look as blue as Scooters, but they are REALLY BRIGHT when I turn on the high beams.
