HID Question

OK, I dont have a 2nd gen CL, but I got HID's from a lexus for my 1st gen. Now, the braided wire from the ballast to the bulb, does that carry voltage, or is it the ground?? Is there a reason why car makers keep that inside the headlight housing? I used to have a philips HID conversion kit, and the wire from the balast to the bulb had a jacket on it. Is it ok to leave that braided wire exposed?? Thanks in advance.

This is most likely either a ground or a shield for the high tension wire inside that fires the bulb up.Please use caution in regards to this wire the voltage inside can cause potentially lethal power.Jens
