hid lights
Quick question,
At what wattage will our wiring melt, or what causes it. And what is the best temp for the lgiths to be closer to white? You know how some people on ebay say "4500k or 5350k one no one offer higher so ours is the brightest." Or is just the quality of the bulb?

the stock HID lights are rated at around 4300K, which is the best for producing "white" light or daylight as some call it.
bulbs that are rated higher produce light which is more blue in color, increasing in the blue as the rating goes higher. But as the rating goes higher, the amount of light output decreases. That's why they put 4300K rated bulbs as stock because they are the brightest in terms of light output and are bright white.
the brightest does have to do with the temperature rating which is the number they say, but the brightest is 4300K not anything higher, and not anything lower. if you were to go lower, it would make the light more yellow and look like a standard halogen bulb instead.
if you do a search on HID lights and so forth on this forum u'll see there have been many threads on this and a majority of people including myself have said the stocks are the best.
but if you want to go for show u can up the rating on your bulb, but you'll lose light intensity and it will be harder to see at night.

slyraskal - nice explanation. I've often wondered about everything you mentioned. I'd noticed that some HIDs (especially on Audi's) are very blue, while some (Acura's and Bimmer's) look much whiter. Never been in an Audi or similarly equipped car at night, so I always wondered if they brighter....they are definately more annoying when coming at you!

A lot of people have wondered about why the audi's and mercedes look more blue and there is a lot of speculation as to why they do, and no one has determined what it is exactly, but for the most part, most people believe it's either because the bulb is a higher rating or the projector housing it sits in gives it the blue effect, or it's a combination of the two.
