HID/H1 bulb for fog lights

i have successfully CHOPPED UP AND made a perfect fit for an H1 bulb to go in our factory fogs..... while still using the factory plugins so u dont have to chop up your lights jus the connector
Now i am testing to see if the heat will cause any problems....
also pics will be up tonight since i no longer have a camera... its iphone pics....

i am just using a regular H1 bulb now since it was only like 2$s..... anyone done this before

Halogens should work heat wise because HIDs are just a little to hot but I found H7s fit better

If you do HIDs you need to drill 2" hole in the top to dissipate the heat

ok

Tools Needed
1.Needle Nose Pliers
2. Hack saw
3. Dremel tool with side cut bit
4. sandpaper
5. 2 H1 Bulbs
6. sharpie

First: Remove the fog lights from the car.
also remover the socket for the 194 bulb.
Cut the end of the socket off as shown in picture

Next
use the needle nose pliers to remove the metal clips in the socket where the bulb slides in
pull hard they are tight.

Next
Use the dremel with the side cut bit to hollow out the center of the socket. dont get rowdy with it because u want a sorta tight fit. keep checking the H1 bulb and the socket to see if they will slid together.

Now once you have the hole in the socket find where the two pins on the H1 bulb touch the socket flat.
mark with a sharpie and use the dremel to make holes for them so the bulb will be flush with the socket.

now take the bulb out and cut the front of the socket(bulb aka the light side) and cut about an 1/8" to a 1/4" off. make sure you do not cut the 4 locks on the socket that hold it in the hole.

Now you can sand the rough cuts with sand paper to they are smooth and look good you dont have to but looks better when someone looks at it.

put the bulb in the socket and glue it in with RTV or whatever you think will hold it. im not that far yet.

i wont have my bumper back till wednesday because they are painting it so i wont have scratches and scraped all in it.
i will put the wiring up also when i get that back.
so hold till then
any questions PM me

ok well i will see. if i can manage to insulate it or maybe vent it. hopefully they dont shine correctly. also if i run a 35watt H1 HID it should run cooler than the H1 55watt halogen. correct?

If your going to sell these for the low and they work.

I would want just the sockets,so it would be set for plug n play.
Then I could source my own bulbs/kit.

well the H1 is the only bulb ive made fit these. im not 100% positive about that statement. some other "H" bulb could fit. not sure.
but i will make these work no matter what.

i am actually going to fit in an aluminum heatsink i think off a computer board.... and polish it so it still reflects right. that should dissipate the heat if it has problems. im excited ii cant wait to actually have lights in there not POS 194 bulbs...... of and does the factory little socket connectors have enough to power that H1? or should i rerun new wires MrFlurry? i was actually gonna wire them into the marker lights... but not sure yet

good news. the bumper is back and i am working on hooking up the fogs tonight. i have realized that the bulbs have way to much heat and i am going to cut the housings...... i know im down about it too. but i think i can trim and add more to the housings and everything will be ok!
Pics will be up tonight

still awaiting that results on that test

ok so the HID are probly gonna be a while. but i can tell you that i looked it up and the H1 halogens are hotter than HID lights. so if the halogens wont melt them then the HIDs wont either.
im going to pick up a new set of sockets to make the HIDs friday but the HID bulbs wont come in for a couple weeks.

you would have to mod it a bit more maybe since the hid connections are going to be different....for halogens, you can see in your photos that there is a plug to fit into the socket...but it would no longer go into a socket since the hids will come with preset wires that fit into the ballast.....

yea and the HID Bulb itself in most cases is a bit longer then the H1 bulb, idk if that'll cause conflict either but the last time i stuck an H1 HID kit bulb into an H1 hosing the D2S bulb was too long for the housing...

washers?
