Question HID bulb replacement

My passenger side low-beam is out on my 01 CL. Would you guys guess that it's the bulb or the inverter? Is there any way to test before I buy a replacement bulb?

If I do buy a bulb, what do you guys think of the Philips D2R bulbs? What kind do I get- 6000K?

Any other advice on replacing this stuff will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Casey

My man you are a genuis. Do I have to take the battery out to get the drive side out though? Also, what kind of tool do I need to get the bulb out?

If I find out the bulb is bad I'll probably buy that used one from you. How long are they supposed to last though? Would I need to buy new?

Thanks,

Casey

i believe you need a Torx Security Bit, i know they sell them at auto part stores, it looks like a hex bit but with a little dimple in the middle. you shouldnt have to remove anything, just disconnect your battery ground to be on the safe side. and be very careful when pulling the bulb.

the passenger side is very easy. but to get to the drivers side you will have to take off the black plastic that covers the whole front part off the engine. then there is a black piece that is right in front of the intake and next to the battery you will have to pull that off and lastly there is a black plastic piece that looks like an elbow you pull that off and you can get to the drivers side. just let me know if you want that light.

Ok so I took my car to the dealer today and had them check the light. They found a fuse was out and decided it was the ballast that is bad. After using the search function I have concluded that this is ONE BIG CONSPIRACY! I'm 5 months out of my warranty and BAM, I need an $800 repair. The dealer will only good-will this if I get a 45K mile checkup, which is $300 + labor on the fix ($500).

Why doesn't Acura just fix this when they know so many are going bad? What's funny is my dealership acts like they've never seen this but they must change these all the time. Arghhhh.

Well it's off to eBay for me to find a ballast. I'm pissed at Acura though.

Will TL ballasts work in my CL? Do I need to get exact OEM ballasts?

thats because acura tries to make their money

the TL 2nd gen should be the same ballast...not sure if the 3rd gen will work but yeah you will need the oem ballasts....or you can switch the ballasts out and get philps 6000k complete kit
