hi...newbie here...

Hi. I am the proud owner of a 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type S I love my car. However, I want to make it faster. I thought maybe this would go in tech talk, so I'm sorry if I'm putting this in the wrong forum.

I was thinking about getting perhaps a mod chip for my car, but a friend of mine said that it would probably only add like 20 horsepower to my engine. That's not really economically efficient IMO. I was also thinking about getting a new air intake system.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any sites that I could go to where I could find this information? I'm specifically looking for specs about what these components could add to my engine.

I do not want to "rice" my car out with those stupid body kits and whatnot. Anything I do to my car I want to do under the hood to make it faster.

do a search for intakes.

a chip (piggyback ecu) isn't available yet. supposed to be out sometime in early '04.

your best bet for now is headers.

Don't do the ECU yet... start with the IceBox and Header... 30-40hp (crank) - makes it a nice round 300hp

Welcome,
YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

Check the tuners guide and use the search before you post because it's probably been asked before.

Start with an intake and that will give you a good basis on where you want to take the car performance wise

did you buy a 6 speed?
no chip for our car yet, and if you think 20hp out of the chip is "uneconomical", then you wouldn't want to pay $1000 for headers that add only 30-35hp.
And dont worry about riced out body kits. there are only like two available.

Nah, I got the 5speed automatic transmission. Looking back at it, I wish I had gotten the 6 speed and just learned how to drive stick then
Well, I just think 20hp out of a mod chip is low, compared to what it can add to other cars, for pretty much the same cost. Does that make sense?

Ok, so I have a hypothetical question. Let's say I have $3000 that I can spend on my car. What could I get to get the biggest bang for my buck? I don't know much about cars, outside of how to properly maintain it.

Yeah, but which ones of each? I have a 2003 CL-Type S, automatic. Like I said...I don't know what's good and what isn't for the most part.

I agree except if you are only interested in performance I would take out the exhaust...too much money for no power (1-4 hp).

Everything else is good:

- intake or icebox (depending on whether you want the sound or not). Do a search using either word or both. $190-$270

- Headers. OBX/Stone/Comptech. Don't want to get into the difference so just do a search and there is enough material to last you for months. $400-$1100

- Springs or coilovers. Comptech/H&R/eibach/Teins $200-$1000???

- Sways. Comptech/Nuespeed/Eibach $150-$350???

- Tires. $120-$200 per tire

Welcome to the board.

Check this FAQ out to give you some general info about your car too:

make that 4k and you got a supercharger....I would go for that. add on small stuff gradually after that.

I actually just spent 3k on my car in the past 6 weeks...spent it all on stereo stuff though.

first things first i'd lower it, add intake and headers, keep the stock tires for winter and get some grippy ones for the spring and summer

Welcome, if you want to spend $$ on your CL-S, this is the place !! I would suggest sways and tires first, maybe intake also. Then headers, springs and Koni yellows. Don't forget a good radar detector and then the SC of course
