Help! TL lip

sup guys, i got a 02-03 TL front lip at the junk yard and im having trouble trying to figure out how to mount it on my bumper? if it was the 99-01 then i can just measure, cut, bondo, sand and slap it underneath the bumper, but since its the 02-03 i cant, cus of the little flap on top that goes into the lower grill, it wont line up perfectly. so has anyone done it b4 or know sumone who has done it or know a link? i got the whole TL lip kit so i promise to show u guys the end results, thanks guys.

interesting....

don't see why there would be that much "space" between the two seeing as how the 99 style lip fits almost perfect. have you tried cutting it up? (since you'll more than likely have to anyways?)

maybe that space/bend getting flattened out would help

You're going to have to cut it up before it even resembles something that is meant to be there.

Break out the dremel and get creative. Good luck with it though, Id like to see it done.

I agree, cut it into 3 then see where you're at. You might have to cut the part that goes into the lower grill right off?? I know Kyle7777 has the 03 TL lip. I think that's his user name.

I would def trim the edges of that upper piece to try and make it sit more flush onto the bumper

kyle7777 purchased his TL lip from a prior member of acurazine and it was already modified so he didn't do the modifications himself. When you find out what it takes post the info because I'm interested to know and I'm sure there are others that are too.

looks like you are going to have to make the cut along the sides since the vent looks to be centered under the light. the problem with extending it is going to be filling it and sanding in the new body line in the center of the lip. i would also recommend you drop by an auto paint supply shop and talk to them before you go filling a 2" gap with bondo. they will also be able to advise you on some proper epoxy to bond the plastics with. 3m is your friend when it comes to plastics! for the sides and rear, since they are the same, search for the pictures of my kit process.

thanx for the tips. the front is fine, i just need to cut/grind a little bit off both the top corners of the top flap so it will sit perfectly with the lower grill. as for the sides, i guess the only way is to cut somewhere alone the sides and put something underneath the lip for support while i bondo the 2 inch gap. ill go ask an auto paint shop about what im doing. for the side lips, i just finish them. i did it the same way u did urs. im not quite sure about the rear, its longer than the bumper. i was lookin through ur process but couldnt find where u did the rear, sry if i couldnt find it. is it the same as the front where its cut into 3 pieces? can u pm me how u did it, thanks.

I know this is the 01 but It might give you some ideas

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=TL+lip

also if you look at how it goes on it sits under the bumper and further back and you have it more in front of the bumper if it will fit under (or if you can make it fit more under ) it would give you less of a gap on the sides

BTW I love that lip kit so I hope you can make it fit !!

ive been doing a little research and sum people recommend using a two part flexible epoxy adhesive instead of the bondo cus it doesnt "flex" much. are they rite about using the flexible epoxy material? where can i find these flexible epoxy, autozone, pepboys, home depot, walmart?

Im not sure where you can find it but there defintly right, if you use bond and the lip moves just a little its all going to crack !! unless you get really lucky

3m 8115
everyones homework is now complete.

and yes 3m makes products specifically for body kits but i was told that it does not even compare. the SW rep i spoke with said he had many shops complain that they had kits coming back that were not staying on. the 8115 epoxy is make for overlaying body panel skins and solved his kit problems his shops were having. so any time you see that black goop in my pictures.....8115 and lots of it. this shit redefines the word permanent!

finally i found sum epoxy from sherwin william. not quite the rite one cus the lady said they were out of the 8115 or 5859, if i must have it, the cloest sherwin william auto supply that has it is in oakland, 2hr drive. so she said this "other" brand works pretty much the same thing as the 3M.

ebay or online for the epoxy and gun if it is not local. evercoat polyfelx is used just like bondo but allows for a little movement when used in thin coats. i had to get the polyflex from an auto paint supply shop here in town. i am sure it can also be had online.

btw mr. fast you are going to be hand mixing that epoxy and trying to hold the lip at the same time?!? buy the 8115 and the epoxy gun that has a mixer tip. it will make your life much easier through this process. you will be unloading a metric crap ton of that epoxy behind the lip while trying to keep everything aligned.

OMG! i just found the total lip installation package on ebay. and yes this shit is usually $40 per tube.

guess i really have to order the 8115 just to make my life easier, like u said. the front lip is just a bitch. i dont even want to deal with it...*sigh*...i cant glue it underneath the bumper, i have to glue it on the sides of the bumper cus thats how it was design to fit. imma try to use the epoxy that i got from sherwin william and try to fill up the 2inch gap that i cut alone the sides of the lip. using the a mesh grill behind the lip as a guide and reinforcement, ill try to apply the epoxy on top of the mesh grill. sounds confusing but ill post pix of how i did it after i finish with the front lip 2morrow, hopefully

i bought an off brand gun for $30-$40 that worked just fine. the supply shop had it laying around so i'm not sure on the brand. i know the 3m gun is F'n ridiculous but i'm sure is of much better quality. my cheap gun broke with half a lip left i so i was forced to use screw drivers and hand mix. trust me...you do not want to do that on the whole kit. find the off brand cheap gun!

lol the gun broke off!? haha damn thats funny. well im not cheap, but im not gonna spend like $300-$400 on a glue gun and use it once and throw it in the garage, gonna b a waste. so gonna go shoppin for supplys again. damn i probly spend close to $250 just on supplys. shit i didnt really think it through on my budget supplys.

$250 is nothing yet. with the cost of materials and the kit i never took up any requests to do other peoples kits. with my materials and time added in it would be VERY expensive.
i used probably 7-9 tubes of that shit on an entire kit, plus one tube of filler. $300+ easy
epoxy gun. $40
polyflex. $40
about 500 squeeze clamps for the sides. $30
couple rolls of duct tape.
burned up one dremel and returned it to home depot for another. $60
numerous reinforced cutting wheels. $don't recall but not cheap.
paint prep and plastic prep spray.
sandpaper discs for my orbital. all grits.
