Today walking away from my car at lunch I saw some really bad holographic swirl marks on the side of my car! It sucks! I plan on putting on a coat of z-5 this weekend after washing it, but will that be enough?? Does anyone have any other advice?? I think this happened when the dealer washed it. I picked it up yesterday after having a rattle fixed. I'm pissed!!

Dude! What is wrong with you??? I've got standing orders at David McDavid to NEVER wash my car at service. Not even a VACUUM!
Got to the Pep Boys on Spring Creek at the southwest corner of Alma in Plano and pick-up a bottle of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for $10. Grab some terrycloth wax applicators and some of those 100% cotton towels too. Apply in the shade/dark/gargage in a back and forth motion (like if you were sanding wood with the grain) NOT circular, allow to dry and buff out. This stuff is greasy, so at the halfway point of doing the car, use a new towel.
You can thank me later at the Frisco/Plano meet this spring.

I did not think they were gonna wash it. They washed it when I took it in for an oil change a few weeks ago and they didn't swirl it up. So this glaze stuff is good, huh?? Can I put it on top of the Zanio that I have on now????

Don't know since I'm not a Zaino user (don't see what it does for gold that my 3M products can't.) Seeing as how the IHG cuts thru swirls, I'd assume it would take that Zaino right off.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by P-Man:

when you say to use a back and forth motion - on the hood it's from the bumber to winshield, but on the sided would i go up and down or side-to-side??

P-Man,
You would always want to put the 3m stuff first, and apply zaino last. I have seen 3M products at pep boys, and trak auto.

Would seem that our Acura factory finishes are light weights. Has anyone tried a Ming or Miracle Shield treatment as protection against the scratchies?

do you think i should wash off all my zanio tomorrow and start with a coat of the 3m haze stuff or should i just put another coat of z5 and z2 on and see how it looks after that. i just did my first zanio treatment in october/november so i don't really want to do the whole thing again. also, should i go side-to-side or up-and-down on the sides of the car? (someone please answer this time!)

J/K - I don't think it matters but probably side to side is easier for you. That's what I would do.

I went to the 3M site and they have a swirl remover did you use that?
Or did you use the 3M Imperial Hand Glaze? Cause it does not say anything in regards to reducing or getting ride of swirls.

WOW! I'm sorry to get you guys so confused. Hairline scratches are not the same as deep swirl marks. What I suggest is to start with the Hand Glaze first since it's so cheap and see what happens. The Glaze is a cleaner without harsh abrasives and can help in eliminating very fine scratches. The Swirl Remover is actually an abrasive that *may* take off more clear coat than you were expecting if you go that route.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by AccordV6:

I am NOT responsible for any harm you may cause to your finish as a result of inappropriate or improper use of the 3M product line.
Bottom line is, if you can't trust yourself to do the job right, take it to a high-end detail shop. That way, if you don't like the result, they have to fix it.

Duly noted. Heck, I noticed some swirl marks on mine at delivery. I almost pointed them out, but quickly realized that they'd just get the same guy who put them there in the first place to have another go at it (presumably with the same dirty rag).<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by droideka:

Got to the Pep Boys on Spring Creek at the southwest corner of Alma in Plano and pick-up a bottle of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for $10. Grab some terrycloth wax applicators and some of those 100% cotton towels too. Apply in the shade/dark/gargage in a back and forth motion (like if you were sanding wood with the grain) NOT circular, allow to dry and buff out. This stuff is greasy, so at the halfway point of doing the car, use a new towel.

Went there today and got those items plus a few others. I'll be hard at work out in the garage tomorrow.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">

The 3M glaze is great for removing swirls; don't use it too frequently. It will strip any protective wax on the car. Also make sure you put a good coat of wax on top.
Great suggestion, droideka.

Yeah, Mike. That's it. Start with the Glaze, and if you like the result, put a coat or two of the 3M Perfect-It Show Car Wax (same type of bottle, different label) over it. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that, but that's my regimen. Glaze every six months or so followed by the Show Car Wax.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by MikeS 18:
