Help with stereo problem.......

I had my amp and sub install to my car several weeks ago. I have noted a a mild thumping sound evertime I turn the radio and the ignition switch off. Is there a way to correct this problem? or Is this a normal thing when you tap-into the existing BOSE System?

Any ideas to correct this minor problem. Thanks in advance for the help, if any given.

it might be just line noise.. do you have your power lines close to your remote line annd/or speaker lines?

It is a power surge from capacitors in the line....at least that would be my guess. Those are some of the things that prevent ground loops and humming and all. It's normal with any big amp.

Ok.. A couple of things effect this. I have a JBL 1200.1 and depending on how on the amp it might make this noise. I had a RF 800a2 and it made the noise regardless on install. However my JBL amp did not make that noise if I installed it a certain way. There are two ways to install the JBL amp. One way is use the power antenna to turn the amp on/off. If I used it this way it would make the noise. Another way is the JBL amp has a feature where if you dont hook up the power antenna to it. The Amp senses the volume coming through from the deck, and if it senses no music it automatically shuts off. This way gave no noise for me. What amp are you using?

The thumping noise when you turn on the system proves the lack of the so-called "quiet on" circuitry in your amp. Newer amps should have this feature. There is no way to get rid of this problem unless you change your amp. Hope this helps.

this might help....but i'm not sure if you're willing to go through the hassle. http://crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-UtP...7MC100&o=M&a=0 . it's towards the middle of the page...called amplifier muting circuit. i've never used one before.

I have a Hifonics amp which is pretty old (8 yrs) but it has good power and it's pretty flexible. Thanks for all the info. I will look at the Crutchfield catalog for that part.
