Help! Problem with my car during acceleration.

My car feels like the tires do not grip when I accelerate after 1st gear. However, if I punch it from the start, nothing happens. I just got new tires and it happen with old set of tires too.. Can somebody help me out and figure this problem out. Thanks

Please to explain?

Do you mean that the revs rise (tranny?)

That you can make the tires spin in 2nd, but not in 1st?

ok...tires do not grip the road only after 1st gear, almost like I am spinnng out . The rpm does not rev up and actually it might have to do with VSA making a slow getaway.

You're going to have to explain this better.

This is like being a playing "Clue" with ear muffs, blindfold, and nose plugs.

If the tires don't grip the road after only 1st gear, it would make it appear that you are saying that you can rip the tires loose in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc (BUT NOT IN FIRST). If that was the case, I'd expect you'd have a turbo, S/C, or NOS. Do you?

But then you "appear" to say that you can't get the tires to slip in 1st. Since this is your lowest gear, this makes no sense if the tranny and other components are in good working order. If the VSA is on, it will inhibit a chirp -- to some extent -- in 1st gear. However, even with VSA ON, I can get a small chirp on certain surfaces in 1st gear (I've got Toyo T1S' in 235/45-17).

If you are running a stock car and the tires are the S-03s (your previous tires) or the ES-100s (your current ones), you should barely be able to chirp the tires in 2nd and you might get a "rare" chirp on a paint strip going into 3rd.

BTW, if the RPM is not going up, you can't be spinning your wheels – at least not without some clever engineering mods that I’d sure like to see. IOW, if the RPMs don't rise, you’re not putting power to the road. If the RPMs go up and the car just doesn't go forward, it means the clutches inside the slushbox are toast and its time for a new tranny.

So, if you can get the tires to spin like crazy in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, you have a super powerful engine, defective tires (both sets), and/or the most slippery road surface around. (Is it constantly raining or do they have a machine that comes around putting glycol and rubber dust on your local roads?)

Seriously, I'm sure a number of us would love to help you nail this down, but you have to write a few paragraphs and describe IN DETAIL what is going on.

If I had to guess base on a mildly modified CLS, I’d say the tranny is fried. Take the car into the dealer and have them look at it.

yep, 2nd gear is the main culprit in the trans failures , i agree w/ the last statement in post #6 .
