Help - My AEM CAI install is hosed

Hi All,

This is hard to explain, but I'm posting it as a heads up.

Note this picture:

Okay, on top you have the 'U' prong, which is sitting on a
long screw with rubber on it.

Actually, turns out, it's not a screw at all. It's a rubber thing with a Metal top. ( In retrospect that makes more sense). Anyway, the metal top came off of the rubber, so my CAI is 'loose'.

It's not really that loose because the top of the rubber piece is sunken in, and the metal part fits in there pretty snugly. But I'm not about go hitting speed bumps at high speed.

Anyway, I need to get a new part from somewhere. I called AEM and they said just order it from anywhere that sells the intake. (?) Also I need to get a new set of tubes to get rid of that metal thing and fix my install instructions (as described in http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...threadid=94659 [ thanks mattg])

I didn't use them and now I lost them. Oops.
I think there was two pieces of tubing and some attachment crud?

Does someone who has installed an AEM CAI recently have the parts list so I know what the heck I'm supposed to be ordering?

Thanks

- Frank

If someone doesn't answer it, I'll look in the manual when I get home to see if they list the hose size (you should only need the smaller one, I gathered that you still have the larger heater hose after lookin' at your install pics).

And the 2 clamps you can pick up from any car parts shop.

Don't know what to say about the lock nut that fits on top of the washer. I'm guessing you could probably pick that up from anywhere too.

I'm not sue I'm following the question. But here's the link to AEM's site and the list of all the parts you can think of.

http://www.aempower.com/mis.htm

I recently needed another silicone rubber coupler to take the place of my Bypass valve. Once I found out what the hell I needed, I went over to landspeedracing.com and ordered it from them.

You don't really need to buy new clamps. After you take those couple of old tubes off, you should have plenty of squeeze clamps to choose from.

I'm hoping it's in the installation instructions. Thanks

NOTE: if this doesn’t work out for you, leave me your e-mail in my PM box and when I get to it, I’ll send you the Windows 2000 .DOC file they sent me

Code:
Bill of Materials for:
Part Number 21-419 01-03 Acura CL Type-S & 02-03 Acura TL Type-S
QTY.	Part Number Description
1	2-443 Inlet Pipe
1	21-103 3” AEM Air Filter
1	444.460.04 6mm Nut
1	559999 6mm X 25mm X 1mm Washer
1	1228599 Rubber Mount
1	5-300 Connector Hose 3" x 3"
2	103-BLO-4420 2.75" Hose Clamps
23”	65116 Breather Hose 1/2"
25”	516-006 Water Hose 5/16"
2	99024.032 1" Hose Clamp
2	4093-5 3/4" Hose Clamp
1	10-262 Instructions
2	10-922S AEM Silver Decal
1	10-400W White License Plate Frame

Here is what you need:

1. The Rubber Mount #1228599
2. 23” 1/2 Breather Hose #65116 (This makes the metal pipe go away.)
3. 25” 5/16 Water Hose #516-006

Both Keyes and AEM never bothered to use the hose and just did the “quicky” install. Keyes just kept the hose and AEM didn’t feel like doing the install the right way.

REST OF INSTRUCTIONS:

Read and understand these instructions BEFORE attempting to install this product.
1) Getting started
a) Make sure vehicle is parked on a level surface.
b) Set parking brake.
c) Disconnect negative battery terminal.
d) If engine has run within the past two hours let it cool down.
2) Removing the stock air inlet system
a) Jack the front of the vehicle and support using properly rated jack stands.
b) Disconnect the breather hose from the air inlet tube.
c) Remove the valve cover breather hose assembly.
d) Disconnect the water bypass hose from throttle body or the fast idle thermo valve, where equipped, located at the lower portion of the throttle body. Disconnect the opposite side of the water bypass hose, which runs to either the intake manifold or the water outlet neck. Remove the entire water bypass hose and breather hose assembly from the vehicle.
e) Remove the upper stock air box assembly.
f) Remove the lower front splashguard.
g) Remove the front left tire and remove the inside splashguard (inner fender liner).
h) Remove the lower stock air box assembly.
i) Loosen and remove the air inlet tube from the traction control throttle body.
j) Remove the air box shield closest to the driver side of the vehicle.
k) Remove the support bracket which holds the shield in place.
3) Installing the cold air system
a) When installing the Cold Air Intake System, DO NOT completely tighten the hose clamps or mounting tab hardware until instructed to do so later in these instructions.
b) Install the connector hose and two hose clamps on the traction control throttle body end of the inlet pipe. That is the end closest to the breather nipple.
c) Install the pipe onto the traction control throttle body.
i) The support tab on the inlet pipe will line up with a threaded hole on the inner fender well. Install the rubber isolator mount and attach the air inlet tube onto the rubber mount. Install the large fender washer and the lock nut onto the isolator mount stud and snug it down. Failure to install the rubber mount will void all warranties of the Cold Air System. Below is a diagram of how the rubber mount should be installed.

d) Install the AEM filter on to the end of the inlet tube. Push the filter on around 2 inches over the inlet pipe and install one hose clamp to secure the filter on to the inlet pipe. Once fitment is checked, you can either push the filter on to the inlet pipe more or less depending on clearances.
e) Install the 23” section of 1/2" breather hose onto the valve cover breather nipple. Then slide this onto the nipple on lower portion of the inlet pipe. Install two 1” hose clamps to secure the breather hose. Note: some adjustment might be necessary in order for the breather hose to fit properly.
f) Slide the other breather hose onto the nipple on the backside of the inlet pipe. Note: some adjustment might be necessary in order for the breather hose to fit properly.
g) Connect the new supplied water bypass hose and clamps to the throttle body or the fast idle thermo valve, where equipped, and either the intake manifold or the water outlet neck disconnected earlier. Note: some adjustment might be necessary in order for the breather hose to fit properly.
h) Adjust the air inlet system for the best possible fit. Be sure that the pipe and filter are clear of any obstructions. Make sure that there is ample clearance around every component of the cold air system.
i) Tighten all remaining hose clamps and the nut on the rubber mount.
4) Re-assemble the vehicle
a) Install the left fender liner and the lower front splashguard. Failure to install the plastic splashguard will result in diminished performance and increase the potential for engine damage due to water ingestion in rainy conditions.
b) Install the front left wheel and lower the vehicle.
c) Inspect the engine bay for any loose tools and check that all fasteners that were moved or removed are properly tight.
d) Start engine and perform a final inspection before driving the vehicle.
