Help Me Spend My 5 Grand

I had some extra deductions for taxes this year. I'm having to pay 5k less to the big brother. Want to help me spend it?

Car - 2001 3.2 CLS 5 speed sporstronic

Stock except for INJEN CAI

I need suggestions for:

Complete exhaust system: I want something classy yet mean. Thinking BORLA?

Headers

CHIP

Brakes

whatever else

Thanks playas!

5 grand will get you some nice things... depends what you want to do your car.

drop - springs or coilovers, i say coilovers
rims 18 or 19, something quality... plus
bbk - front
headers - comptech
exhaust - a lot of options of cat back and custom
other engine mods: pulley, p2r products,
projectors
led tails

optional:
supercharger - comptech and everything else u need.
paint job - depends on the condition if u need it
TL lip kit, best looking kit ever, custom fitted of course, check out distoredolskool cltypeslow's threads. brain lin also has it as well as a few other people, but they're not on the forum [anymore]

i suggest you get almost everything used in good condition... why? it's like buying a car, right when you have it in your hands the value depreciates.

or if you're not "ballin" save some money for the "rainy day". something i have yet to learn.

aungga me and you are on totally different levels when it comes to mods, it seems that you are first and foremost into performance, i would tell anyone whether they are going for show or speed first thing you need to do is lower your car (coilovers IMO) and wheels. that right there is a bigger difference than any mod. how many custom cars do you see rolling down the street with stock 16 or 17 inch wheels and jacked up. it struck me that out of the mods you listed, you had somewhat of an idea for the catback.....the one thing that stock from what i read is decent on the typeS is the exhaust unless your going all out. headers i would get XS, you will save a TON of money compared to comptech. do what you want to but i would go for wheels and suspension first

Thanks Fellas!

CL SPEEDSTER - NO!

DLntheCL - I think I'll heed your advice. I will lower it. But you're right, i'm more into performance than looks, but if I can spare a couple hundred from that 5k into the looks department, what do you recommend?

SUPERCHARGER - how much would the comptech supercharger run me? With installation?

LIPPSTUH - thanks bud

--------

Do you think 5k can cover:

Ebach coilovers
Ebach lower kit
Ebach rear sway
Comptech headers
Catback Borla Exhaust ($1000)
Brakes

AND supercharger?

Or Am i asking for the cake and the baker's daughter here?

i'd lower it on coilovers, throw on some axlebacks and xs headers, an underdrive pulley, sways, a comptech s/c, legend type 2 calipers w/redstuff pads and ebc gold rotors with stainless lines. that will all probably run you 5gs if u can find some deals and/or go lightly used.

Put the 5K into a high interest savings account and let it sit and add to it if you can. Im guessing at 20 you dont' already own a home, and that 5K is a start to a downpayment

That was my old man answer, if you are still dead set on spending it on a car then your best option is to get a different car. If you still insist on keeping your current car you will want to upgrade your suspension and brakes first. Extra horsepower does no good if you can't stop or turn at the end of the road

Where are you getting this from? They don't make anything for a CLS.
If your doing a custom job do the magnaflows.

lol the replies went nowhere real fast!

With the FED cutting rates, no way I'm putting MORE money into savings. Inflation alone is going to be faring higher than any APY I can grab out of it. I already switched my savings into gold.

Stocks ... hm. nasdaq, down jones, sp500, all down. worst 200 day moving average in bonds. most volitile 3 day average in history this week. lol! you crazy.

I figure, I can help feed 50 hungry children in Africa, or, bring myself more happiness thus, making more money and being able to make larger future donations ...

So ....

How much is the supercharger going to run me? with labor?

stock market = recession possibly. u're right... eff savings.

i believe labor can run 500-600? but u need to get it tuned as well.... or should. SC is pretty expensive, its not just buying it and installing it, there's a lot of other things u need to do.

if u want speed/performance, i think u shuld take GM's advice on upgrading to the 6-speed.... and forget about tranny problems.

Mostly good, although the exhaust and chip wont give you that much gain.

have you considered buying some lightweight rims?

the whole time i was thinking, supercharger supercharger supercharger....but then i saw the comment about upgrading to a CLS 6...that would be the best advice...im sure you got a great deal on that car...so sell it for a profit? then use that money and pick up a CLS6...you'll be happier im sure. unless of course you're like me and you have others in the family that may have to drive the car and cannot drive stick...

- Tein coilovers
- light weight rims and rubber
- xs headers
- bbk upgrade
- mid muffler and resignator removal
- then supercharge it if you still want more!

I was wondering the same thing. I knew they didn't make one, but I even checked on Borla's site to make sure.

You might want to save some of that cash in case you need to "upgrade" your automatic transmission Unless you're hoping a dealer will goodwill a new one if needed (since you might be over the 109K/7 year warranty limit). There's a reason decent CL's with clean titles are going cheap. People are afraid of the auto tranny issues.

i still cant believe that you havent listed WHEELS. do you just not like custom wheels? right now im working on upgrading the sound system, which i would and did put in priority right after suspension/wheels. there is nothing like driving a car that has great sound quality
