Help with installing rear brake pads

We have been trying to install new rear pads on a 98 3.0 CL

We got the front pads on fine, but we cant get the rear pistons to compress. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Carefully untighten the bleeder valve on the back calipers and compress the brake piston using a "C" clamp and a thin small block of wood that covers the entire piston top edge. Slowly compress the block of the wood over the piston until it sets flat on the back of the caliper frame.

Retighten bleeder valve and install new pads sim to the front
with a little "anti-squeel" (RTV sealant if aval.) and bolt it back into spindel. You may need to bleed the entire system after all work is complete.

Good luck!

You will need to turn the pistons counter clock wise as you compress them. Their is a tool designed to do it easily but I have done it with a pair of channel locks.

NO NO NO!!

That will damage the face of the piston if it slips off.

Where can I get this tool? This seems like it must be the problem. I have been using a c-clamp, but it needs to go much farther in. It wont budge.

thanks for the quick responses

Well I got it done finally. I got the tool (from Pep boys) that goes on the end of your rachet and it went in no problem. For anyone that runs into the same problem. You have to turn clockwise. It was real easy and the piston went right in. Hope this helps if someone ends up doing a search.

I never did figure out how the rotors come off. Oh well.
