HELP! I ripped my bypass valve! what do i do?!
HELP! I ripped my bypass valve! what do i do?!
ok... i have that ghetto Xepher CAI some of us here have. I wanted to take it out and clean the filter cuz i noticed it was making a clicking sound at a certain rev level. Well got the K&N filter part out from below the car and then looked up top and noticed since i had been pulling and twisting too hard, i pulled apart the bypass valve causing the grey foam, which is the only thing holding it together, apart and ripping it. Now i have this humming noise coming from the intake, which i'm assuming is because there is now no vacuum. A rock fell out of the filter and i thought that would have eliminated the clicking sound, but it didnt! on fast starts from a dead stop it makes this loud annoying clicking sound. what do i do? should i just go to a speed shop in the morning, buy a new bypass valve and have them install it, or should i actually purchase the AEM cai? Anybody use both at a point and prefered one over the other? also, where's the best deal to get one and do they sell it with the bypass valve already in place, or do i have to get that cut and all? thanks guys.
I had the exact same prob, switched the filter and dind't tighten the AEM in tight enough and the bypass ripped. I put the bypass back together and it was vibrating while stopped but in gear.... so I said fuck it and bought a new one. If u don't think u need th valve anymore, get a silicone joint .. cheaper.
You could always call the Xephyr Performance customer service hot line.
I think its 1-800-YEA-RITE

But seriously, I would just tape up the gap for now and buy a new AEM Bypass valve when you get the chance.
I think they’re only like 20-bucks.

The foam on the bypass valve seems to be getting HARD though, so I will probably be looking to replace it sometime soon.

Translation:
I am a yuppie golfer who doesnt know that if I twist, yank, pull, jerk things under the hood without paying attention I might break things that werent designed or made by that "ghetto" out-o-business for lack of planning or common sense CAI company.
btw: Still majority agreed - "best" designed and only '01-'03+ compatible cai.
btw: Still agreed - self proclaimed jackass for that debockled attempt at a performance company *There I said it*
btw: Im still faster then you
