help, engine problems...

my friend just bought an 1998.5 audi a4 quatro 1.8t and he took it to a mechanic today (it was running great) and had it checked. one of the things they did was a compression test. when i picked it up to drive it home, it wouldnt go above 1,000 rpm, it was sputtering, making a ticking sound, shaking, and it was emitting black smoke from the exhaust. i took out the pulgs, the tips were black, replaced them and it is still doing it.

any idea what is causing this?

I've heard people ruin their motors doing a CT. Never seen it in person, couldn't imagine how you could fuck it up that bad.

You didn't get gas on the way home did you??? If you did it was probably diesel. The plug wires could have been mixedup, firing order is wrong. Yeah that's probably what happened, it's most likely something very simple to fix. Good luck, and keep us updated.

You picked it up and the mechanic and it started to act weird. Well I ain't no mechanic, but.....

TAKE IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC. Don't touch the car. Call them and tell them what is happening. Anything you do to the car could void any claims you have with the mechanic.

Good luck! Yeah what NSXNEXT said is solid advice, don't tell them that you even touched the car.
