that's a good idea considering the OEM heat shield won't fit back on after the install.

The heat wrap is suppose to insulate the heat to the header rather than spreading the heat throughout the engine compartment.

I'm wondering, wouldn't that retained heat cause more wear and tear to the headers/exhaust pipes?

chikai - i'd bet that it allows the headers to cool more slowly and linearly providing a much easier cooling process.

randomwalk1 wrapped his headers. It looks like it's mummified or something .... His reason, to keep engine bay temp. down

yeah that makes sense. I'm just wondering since all the heat that would normally escape w/o the wrapping is now trapped by the insulation, wouldn't the header run much hotter?

Also there is only one way for all that heat to go, and that is down the rest of the piping, correct?

The headers will run hotter, but the reason isn't to cool the engine compartment, it's to keep the gasses hot going out the exhaust system.

Hot gas moves faster than cold, so if you can keep it hot, then it'll leave the headers without slowing down = more HP to the ground.

The idea of wrapping headers isnt a new one, and it does have some benefits. However, depending on the grade of steel the wrap can do more harm then good. Wrapping mild steel headers eventually causes degradation of the steel , the welds, as well as the headers themselves becuase of the moisture that gets trapped between the header and the wrapping agent. Its benefits do include maintaining a higher exhaust temperature which increases the flow through the header. IMO, I wouldnt do it only because the Comptech headers are too $$$ to risk replacing afetr a year or two ( Maybe it can be rationalized for OBX headers but cnsidering the grade of materials in OBX headers I wouldnt expect the same lifespan for OBX if they were wrapped.... my .02

I'll keep you guys posted, I am wrapping my headers for my Probe GT before installing them this week, but I won't wrap my headers for the CL, and bothe headers are OBX brand headers!

I was wondering the smae thing, but I have a little more tolerance for mistakes and experimentatin with the Probe.
