Headlight Problem...Can anyone help???

About three weeks ago I turned on my headlights and the passenger side headlight was out. The next morning i went to the store to buy some new headlights and when i got home to replace them, the headlight was working. For about 2 1/2 weeks i had no problem with it. Well, about 2 or 3 days ago I turned on my headlights and the passenger light was not working again. As i was driving down the road i turned my headlights off and then back on. When i turned the headlights back on both worked fine. Has anyone experienced this before or does anyone know what could be going on? Thanks in Advance.

I don't know if this will help but my 85' mustang had the same problem. Ended up being the High beam/Low beam switch on the column. If they go out again, try flashing your High beams.

Could it be a bad balast (did I spell that right?)? Don't HID's have one? I don't really know too much about HID's. I just turn mine on!

Hi, I'm new.

I had this same problem last week with BOTH of my headlights...they flicker and go out, and when you turn them on/off a few times you can get them back on. First it was the passenger, then the drivers side did it too. with HIDs, it could be one of a few different components of the headlight. It's probably either a bad ground or the igniter is going bad. I think in my car they decided it was the igniter...

....but since my car is still under warrantee, i just had them replace it all. Good luck.

^ Id have to agree w/ her on the igniter. If you do a search a lot of ppl had the same problem which turned out to be the igniter. Do you have any warranty left? If so, take it in itll cover it.

OH, and welcome CL-S Girl!

Well today i when i left work i turned on the headlights. The passenger side light did not come on, so i thought i would try the trick of turning them off and then back on. This time the light did not come one. I tried to turn them off and on a few times to see if it would come on, and it did not. Does this still sound like a bad ignitor? Thanks for your replies guys.

It could be a couple of things MeagheanA. Ballast or Ignitor. Like previously said, if you're still under warranty, take it into the shop for warranty repairs. Hope that helps...

BTW Welcome to the forum, MeagheanA and CL-S Girl Glad to see more chicks here

The balast and the ingniter are sort of connected, technically they'd have to replace both. It's still probably the igniter, my passenger light wouldn't come on at all for a while, then came back after a day or two, then went out again, etc etc etc.

But no, I didn't hear any noises from the headlight.

Regardless on whether or not you hear any noises, if you're still under warranty, take that bad boy in and have it fixed (for whatever reason). I mean, that's what you paid for, so why not use it

Alright so my car isn't under warranty because it was wrecked by the previous owner. But i was thinking about this problem the other day, and when my car was wrecked it was hit on the front bumper on the passenger side. I don't know how long ago it was wrecked, but do you guys think that the accident happening on that part of the car would cause this problem? If not, where could i find where to check/fix/replace the ignitor first?

your car being in a wreck shouldnt void your warranty-unless you have a salvage title.

and if the wreck was to that side, something definately could have been damaged and not replaced/fixed right. you need to find a mechanic who works on cars with HID's, cause they will understand how they work-not that they are hard-just that they may have more experience
