headlight out
headlight out
I tried a search and could not find any real answers on this. has anybody had a headlight go out? I called the dealer and found out they want 120 dollars for a replacement bulb.
auto zone and a few other shops say the car is too new. no replacement aftermarket bulbs exist. also is it normal for the fuse to blow when the light goes out? when I replaced the fuse and removed the connector from the back of the light housing the fuse does not blow. any help on this will be appreciated.

err 120 a bulb actually is not a bad price, but their a PITA to change, well not really, ive removed my bumper multiple times to take off the head light housings cause i replaced them with better bulbs, just pray it is just your bulb and not the inverter unit
I've had my HID bulb go out. Dealer rips you a new one to replace. So I went with 5000K bulbs from Philips. I got them of a fellow member, his SN is akinaboy. He has a first gen, try and see if he still has some. I came across him on EBAY. 5000K provide whiter light IMO w/out the loss of lumens. You can go as high as 6000K before loosing lumens if I remember right.
Yes these bulbs should last a "life-time", just depends on how you use it. I had a bad tendency to turn them on even during the day. That cut the life time I guess.

thanks for the replies guys. Niz181, I may take you up on that offer. I just want to make sure it's the bulb and not something else wrong. from what I know about electronics, a blown fuse is more of an indication of a short rather than an open circuit which is usually caused by a bad lightbulb. methodRN, did you blow a fuse when your light went out?

The higher the Kelvin, the less visibility and light output, and vice versa.
I've written posts regarding lighting many many times, I'm sure you can find me commenting on numerous ones.
Edit: Also, the higher the Kelvin, the lower your bulb life.

my inverter went out too and the dealer replaced it under warranty. car was about a year and a half old ('03 CLS). after replacing, you can see a difference in both lights....one was brighter and the other was a little more yellow. complained and the dealer ended up replacing both lights to try to match the color. they couldn't do it so i just left it. two new inverters/ballasts. hopefully these ones will last the life of the car.
when it started to go out, flipping them on and off would help bring it back on, but it would go out intermittently. dealer said that was a sign of a bad inverter. so jonesi, get yours checked out to make sure it isn't a bad inverter.

Flicking it on and off helped the first month it started happening but as time passed, it got worse and I had to flip them on and off about 10-15 times before it turned on.
