Headlight alignment???

I have read the posts on aligning the headlights but I for the life of me can't find the screw to turn. I see the U - D and L - R sign but no screw. And yes I did remove the grey plastic peice that runs from side to side. I do see the bolts that are used to hold the lights into place on the frame of the car. Anyone have any insight to this question of mine?

It's easier to find on the passenger side first. Look right behind the headlight at roughly the same level where the hose comes out of the power steering fluid reservoir. You'll see a silver colored grooved wheel that has a nut on the back of it. There's a hole for the screwdriver to fit in right above it. Once you find that one, look in same location on the other side for the driver's side adjuster. You'll need a fairly long Phillips head screwdriver to get to that one. This is for the up/down adjusters but the left/right adjusters look similar.

One word of suggestion: Don't use the phillips screwdriver theory, use a 10mm 1/4" drive socket and wrench for adjusting. It's really not hard to get at the drivers side if you've done a CAI (all the crap is now out of the way.)

It works better IMO. Allows for better "fine tuning" of the lamp height.

I agree with mackdaddy use the 10mm to adjust the headlight, I just adjusted mine about a month ago and the 10mm socket is better, I also have a CAI and is easier to access the drivers side headlamp, but go to Extremely useful topics area and there is a step by step instruction on how to adjust the headlights by soopa.

mackdaddy,

Question...is this adjustment bolt a 10 mm bolt or a phillips screw or a combination of both.

It's actually a combo of both (but not like your thinking.) It's setup to use the phillips screwdriver for ease of access from a side angle, but like I said if you've got a CAI in place, then do the 10mm socket adjustment. Much better. One you take a look at what I'm talking about, you'll figure it out!

mackdaddy,

Thanks for the information. I have tried to print out headlight adjustments in the extremely useful topics that soopa posted, but the photos do not come out in my computer when I try to download.

I removed the sunglass holder and cut a very small hole on the side the wires come out of the VAFC. It was big enough to fit the connector through. Then I ran the wires across the top of the window under the ceiling. Then down the side of the window behind the plastic peice and up under the dash from there. I did it in a way that it could be removed and not show that is was ever there.

mackdaddy,

Thanks again for the photos of these bolts that adjust our headlights. It will help to cut searching time down.

In your photos it looks like that a phillips screw driver is not the proper tool to use. A 10mm boxed end wrench or a 10 mm socket with a universal joint attached to a 1/4 rachet wrench makes the most sense.

Just my opinion, but I think others were using a phillips screw driver and adjusting it improperly by using the crown looking section of the bolts to do their adjustments. One can adjust their headlight this way but using the correct tools, one can do more precise adjustments to achieve perfect alignment of their headlights.

Blown 331 - Actually the phillips screwdriver method is what's specified in the service manual (that's why the factory made that elaborate contraption in the 1st place.) But like I said, folks with CAI should do the 10mm socket / wrench adjustment, as it's far more precise. Anybody who's ever fooled with it will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Just one more reason to install a CAI!!
