headlight adjustment

a while ago i posted about how one my headlights was much brighter than the other. today i was looking at the xenon bulbs and i noticed the brighter one was positioned much higher than the other. ah-ha! problem found (i hope). i know from reading chod's faq that there is a way to adjust the height of the bulbs but i can't figure out where the "3 tooth screw" that does this is. can anyone show me a picture or tell me what to look for exactly? thanks

I left my digicam at work, otherwise I'd go take a pic :\

If nobody posts a pic, or you dont figure it out before Monday I'll post one then.

Uh... if your right HID light (you sitting in driver seat) is higher than the other that is normal I believe. Because my car and all the other ones I have seen are like that. I think that is because you don't want to be blinding the guy on your left when you are driving on the road.

I just adjusted mine this weekend. I went for the vertical adjustment (my beams pointing down low due to springs) as the horizontal (left to right adjustment) seems alright.

NOTE* Adjusting your headlights should be done by focusing first at a wall or screen on a flat surface and about 25ft from the walls surface. The actual specs can be found in the CL shop manual.

I was lucky to have to adjust just the vertical positioning. Why? Because the vertical adjusters are the easiest to reach from above the engine. Insert a small phillips screwdriver into the wheel of the adjuster and turn. I forget in which direction to turn but since the headlights are on its easy to view if your going up or down. If anybody needs the actual manual measurements for the vertical adjustments just hollar.

Hey Al Uminum,

Where "exactly" can the vertical adjuster be found? I have the same problem since lowering the car.

Thanks

This is from Chod's faq.
This should be done when lowering the car to preserve the amount of area lit by the lights.
Note that you should 'measure' the current level of the lights by shining the lights on a brick wall prior to lowering the car. (or a similar method).
To adjust the lights:

Open your hood.
Behind the headlights there is a gray plastic piece that goes from one end of the car to the other. Remove it.
Behind the headlights there is a 3 tooth screw which you can turn to adjust the light height.

and a related post w/ pics i posted.
comptech springs = headlight adjustment.

Yeah what he said. There is NOTHING TO REMOVE. At least for the vertical adjuster there wasn't. Further down is the horizontal adjusters. I could see those but access would be more difficult because the adjusters are further down. A longer phillips should do it. Use some mark (electricians tape) on a wall to do it nice and even.

To get really anal about adjusting the headlights:
  • Make sure your tires are at the proper pressure.
  • Have the driver or someone of the same weight sit in the drivers seat.
