Headers and smog
Hey Guys,
For those with headers and intake, were you guys able to pass smog? I've searched the forum but wasnt able to get an answer from someone that has actually done it. Thanks
Mike

Don't worry, the air filter is just a different style, and headers are just a freer flowing pipe for gases to exit thru. HWY mileage will probably improve alittle.

If they are CARB exempt, there are no problems. If not, you need to find a place that will overlook the non-OE equipment.
I/H will not affect what comes out of the pipe, but if not CARB exempt, you would fail the visual exemption.....

All's I know is the Comptech's are CARB'd with visible EO number. Smog #s == few.

The Comptech are CARB certified. They have a CARB E.O. (California Air Resources Board Executive Order) number engraved on them.
There might be a dearth of people that can comment on the actual numbers that were shown during an actual test. Unless a 2001 or later model CL is offered for sale, it should NOT require a CA smog check yet. IOW, I'm going to be heading off for one next year. (California gives a 4-year pass to new cars that are not tagged as gross polluters or sold, etc.)

The term "exempt" is generally being applied to vehicles, etc. that do not have to qualify from smog certification. I hear the words being used enough that people generally know what I mean and visa versa.
If the part is "for real" (CERTIFIED) you should find an "Executive Administration" number (EO #) for the part.
Sometimes the CARB site -- with the EO database -- is a little out of date, so if someone is really "fussy", they can call the manufacturer or dealer and ask for the specific EO number to see if the part has finished the certification process. Sometimes people have said the parts were smog exempt (certified) and they were still processing their applications (pending certification/exemption).

Looking for Comptech stuff is possible by EO number or type of device.
Here is a pdf that is linked for the 2001-2003 CLS, RSX, etc, etc. (headers)

Interesting that the test is for a 2002 RSX, the list in the PDF (at bottom) includes 2001-2001 CLS.
2001 CLS etc (headers)

Interesting that the test is for a 2000 Acura TL.

BTW, I looked on the smog link and couldn't find the OBX headers. If someone wants to be sure, just ask them for the EO number and status. You can take the EO number and call the CARB hotline for verification (so I believe).
