header question?

i know this might seem like a odd question but has anyone just installed upgraded headers and left the rest of the exhaust stock. I know it would defeat the purpose of the free flow but im curious cause i would like some of the gain headers bring but i dont want a loud exhaust so i would keep the stock cat back. Curious of what to expect if i did this and if anyone has done this setup on these boards?

Actually a lot of people do this because the stock exhaust is high flow. What I recommend to get the most power but still be legal for some states is headers + high flow cat + catback exhaust. This will give you the most power out of the exhaust system while still being legal for emissions purposes. But the OEM headers are very restrictive and aftermarket headers free up a lot of hp...

^agreed. Our stock exhaust systems are pretty much as free flow as it will get. You may see a 5hp increase from aftermarket exhaust, but nothing huge. Most people get the exhaust for sound over performance.

i'm thinking taking my draggers anf hks resonator off and going back stock. i have to drive in ss somtimes to keep it in a lower gear because it drones at certain speeds and annoys the hell out of me.

yea see im considering just getting aftermarket headers and keeping the stock cat back exhaust. I dont really want to whole loud exhaust iv been there and done that. I know it will add some more gain in the HP bracket but i just wont some more of a gain and seeing the post people put about how having aftermarket headers is a night a day difference gets me real interested in some.

our exhaust system already permits a high flow so you could expect the same gains just with the stock exhaust!

You dont need to change them. I have S/C + headers with stock canisters and the car run great.
