HBP Installed...
I finally got the HBP this weekend from Velocity Resources. Nice guys, just a mix-up w/ the ordering. They ended up flipping for overnight express to my door on Saturday. Probably cost more to ship than the whole pulley price. Anyway...
Took it to Acura of Lynnwood to get installed this morning. I've been calling all over Seattle, Auburn, Redmond, blah, blah, blah but nobody has any dyno time for over a week. I wanted the b/f and after pulls w/ the pulley but REALLY wanted the pulley on for the Portland meet this weekend. Needless to say, I put the pulley on w/o a base SC run. Oh well.
Impressions: The car still pulls like a biiiiatch but I don't really notice much change. I'm sure it's less than a 20hp gain...which is still significant for $75, don't get me wrong. The SC whines alot louder now so I'm guessing it truly is faster. Also, it's about 80 degrees today and the car still suffers from hot weather even w/ the SC. Maybe the ECU still needs to adjust???
The power delivery is even more linear than before. I cannot feel VTEC at all. Just get on the gas and Rheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (that's the SC sound). I get to 100mph easily and without any sense of engine strain at all. I used to be able to judge when to shift by the sound of the AEM CAI and VTEC. Now I slam into the rev limiter all the time because it just gets there so fast.
Anyway, talk about mid-day rambling. HBP = good. Now where's that STI again?

Went out in the car again this evening. I do think I feel a difference now. Too much traffic around to really test her out but first gear goes by so fast the SS gear indicator barely has time to show "1" before it shifts into "2". I also have never felt this much torque steer before...damn you ACURA!!!

JK, the High Boost Pulley from Comptech. It raises the boost about 1.5 PSI.

We have 92 here in WA and OR. Maybe I'll drop by the SIR on the way down and mix in some 100 octane...though I'm sure it'll be gone by the time I get to Portland.

let me put it to you this way since i never had the stock boost pulley. so far, all the cars i have run against were either very close, or i just destroyed them badly. an nsx, m5, and cobra that i ran, i pretty much kept up. all those cars were faster, but they pulled so slowly it was hardly noticeable. now, i think to myself if i didnt have the higher boost, i would probably lose those races by alot more. being able to hang with some crazy cars like the aforementioned is alot of fun. it also makes them wonder what the hell a 4dr can have to keep up. hbp is well worth it especially after you spend 4k on a blower and can instantly get easy power with an extra $50!
as seattlecls says, you might not notice the difference, but its there. it only ups the boost by 1.5 approx. which is not too significant. if you really want to notice a difference, you can talk to scalbert for more options, even with 91 octane gas.
